Hallmark!
Today is Have a Coke Day which celebrates Coca Cola, the largest nonalcoholic beverage in the world. The classic coke we all know and love is sold in more than 200 countries. More than 1.8 billion glasses of Coke are served every day!
Coca Cola was named after the coca leaves that originally provided its flavor. The original recipe contained 8 mg of cocaine per glass. In 1903 Coca Cola began using a non narcartic coco leaf extract to proved that distinctive flavor.
John Pemberton invented Coca Cola in the late 1800s and it was originally intend as a medicinal syrup to alleive fatigue and headaches. The beverage was still largely unknown when he died in 1888. After buying the secret recipe for $2,300.00, Asa Chandler founded the Coca Cola Company and turned it into a household name.
To celebrate today, have a Coke and enjoy your favorite variety or plan a picnic in honor of the day!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
If Diet Coke did not exist it would have been necessary to invent it.
Karl Lehenbauer
Since they make diet coke and coke Zero, I may enjoy one today. I rarely drink it, but it is a special occasion. I cannot have the sugar in a regular coke anymore. My daughter says the best diet coke is sold at McDonalds but I haven’t tried it. Maybe it would be a great day just to try it out.
My first job out of high school was a job working in the office at our local Coke plant. It was an experience to see them bottling the coke. I only worked there for a year and then left for a better job at a bank working in their bookkeeping department. The work I did at Coke gave me some good training but I couldn’t move up to a higher salary there.
Mondays are my day to cook up something new. I finished off my leftovers yesterday.
On the menu is:
Caprese Turkey Burgers
Makes 4 servings
1 lb lean ground turkey
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1 Tbsp. olive oil
4 slice Mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 chopped basil plus 1/3 cup basil leaves, divided
8 slice tomatoes
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
4 whole wheat buns, toasted
‘
Combine turkey, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and pepper in a medium bowl. Form into 4 equal patties about 4 inches in diameter.
Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Reduce heat to medium and add the burgers. Cook until browned on one side and then turn over and top each slice with mozzarella slice. Cover and cook until a thermometer reads 165 degrees about 5 minutes.
Meanwhile stir mayonaise and chopped basil together in a small bowl. Place tomato slices on a plate and drizzle with vinegar.
Spread about 1 Tbsp. mayo mixture on each bun. Top with a burger, two tomato slices and some basil leaves if desired.
I don’t have Mozerella slices so I will use Provolone cheese instead. Neither do I have basil leaves so will omit that. I will used dried basil in my mayonaise.
This will make a healthy and easy sandwich for my dinner tonight.
They say we may have a few stray showers or thunderstorms today, but I plan to stay in and don’t need to go out, so that doesn’t bother me. I have a burger and a coke to enjoy today!
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week! Happy Monday!

Ah yes Coke! I do love Coke but growing up I preferred Pepsi because the bottles' were bigger! LOL As always the history you include is very eye opening, thanks. If I drink coke at a fast food or pizza I take the diet Coke.
The recipe sounds good as always. I am starting to prefer the chicken and turkey meats as a substitute.
Love from down here

I didn't know you worked for Coca-Cola! Tom shouldn't drink as much (Coke) as he does, but it brings him such a lot of joy I don't say anything. My drink of choice is Diet Dr. Pepper, but haven't enjoyed any carbonated beverages for a while now.
Love caprece salad, but never thought about putting it on a burger. Great idea!
I love a good coke, but I try not to drink too many. Love the burn in the back of the throat. I didn't know you worked for Coke either. Atlanta is the COKE capital.
