Hallmark!
Today is the Ides of March which is the name of the 15th of March in the Roman calendar. In modern times, the term is best known as the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. Caesar was stabbed 23 times to death in the Roman Senate by a group of conspirators led by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Lonquinus. His death marked a turning point in Roman history. Some Romans celebrate the Ides of March as a new year celebration.
Celebrate today and drink a Bloody Caesar. or eat a Caesar salad.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Beware the ides of March
William Shakespeare
I don’t know what a Bloody Caesar is, but I do love a good Caesar salad. So maybe I’ll make one to have with my dinner tonight. On the menu is:
Asparagus Ham Dinner
Makes 6 servings
2 cups uncooked corkscrew or spiral pasta
3/4 lb. fresh asparacus, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 yellow sweet pepper, julienned
1 Tbsp olive oil
6 medium tomatoes, diced
6 oz fully cooked ham, cubed
1/4 cup minced fresh parsley
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp.dried oregano
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/8 tsp. Cayenne pepper
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
Cook pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile in a large cast iron skillet, saute asparagus and yellow pepper in oil until crisp tender. Add tomatoes and ham; heat through. Drain pasta, add to mixture. Stir in parsley and seasonings. Sprinkle with cheese.
I’ll probably leave out the cayenne pepper. It’s too hot for me.
But otherwise this will make a quick and easy dinner tonight.
I have made up a new menu for next week:
Monday - Slow Cooker Chicken and White Bean Stew
Wednesday - Skillet Lasagna
Friday - Easy Salmon Cakes
Weekend - Roast Chicken and Sweet Potatoes
I’ll be doing my grocery shopping from it today. There is an Aldi store next to where I’m going to lunch. I’m to go to lunch with the high school grads group that I meet with once a month. Everyone is to wear green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
Maybe they’ll have corned beef and cabbage on the lunch menu. We’ll see….
I almost forgot to tell you that yesterday I received a basket full of fresh Florida oranges from my son and his wife in Florida. I put them in a cooler bag and set it out on the sunporch to keep them fresh. It’s almost like having another refrigerator out there in the winter time. There wasn’t room in my fridge in the house. Now I’ll be getting some fresh vitamin C, even though I can’t be in Florida. So you see I’m still celebrating my birthday! I’m glad the kids have spaced out their gifts to me and DS#5 says I still have a dinner to go out with them for my birthday as they didn’t get to go to the one at Red Lobster!
Oh Yay!
The pictures are my corned beef and cabbage I made a couple of years ago now and also the Reubin sandwich I made with the corned beef.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
I hope your month is going better than Caesar’s.

I am not superstitious and am not going to bewared of the Ides of March, but will be aware of the beauty all around me today !
Gosh I knew it was the Ides of March and it was also in a pl ay by Shakespeare. I don't think of I forgot it was when Julius Ceasar was killed and stabbed by so many knives! Beware the Ides of March!
Love that quote about a pessimist!
I think the 15th of any month is considered unlucky because of what happened to Caesar but especially the 15th of March since it happened on that day! I only remember that because I was born on the 15th of April! LOL! Hey, the world had to just change to good luck, didn't it? :-)
How fun, getting to space out your birthday joys! A 'real' Caesar salad is such a treat; I've not had one in a long time. Enjoy those fresh oranges!
