THE BRIGHT SIDE

Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.

Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.

Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.

THE BRIGHT SIDE

I'm looking out the window
and the day is drab and dreary,
And I'm trying to console myself
by thinking something cheery
I know it's simply horrible
to get in such a slump
And I also know it's up to me
to get across the hump
And I realize I'm selfish
to mention this to you
For, gee, you might be feeling
a little 'low-down' too
but often when I feel like this
I tell myself it's true
That I am not the only one
who feels 'low-down and blue'
And just knowing there are others
who feel the way I do
Renews my sinking spirit
and keeps me smiling through
and know that it's natural
to take a 'spirit-dive'
Provides the spunk and courage
to hang on and survive
And while there are a lot of moods
that we can drive away
by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE
in all we do and say,
There also is a loneliness
that God meant us to feel
But, gee, it sure is mighty hard
to know which one is real
And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack'
who never saw the sun
And just complained that every day
was such a dreary one.
But I know that all the dark days
are just part of God's plan
We should accept them graciously
and do the best we can...
So I'll just keep on trying
for I know it's 'Gospel true'
there never was a cloud so dark
the sun could not shine through!

I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal.

The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life.

Life is a special occasion!

Today is Daniel Boone Day which honors a famous US frontiersman and the first American to discover present day Kentucky. He also created a path to open up the frontier for future American settlers.

In 1769, Boone led an expedition through the Cumberland Gap, which he later transformed into the the Wilderness Road, to provide others access to the western frontier. In 1773, Boone moved his family to this newly founded settlement in present day Kentucky. He faced great opposition from Native Americans and British Soldiers in the newly founded settlement. The Shawnee, a native American tribe, captured Boone in 1778, but he escaped to protect his settlement. In the end, Boone moved further west, present day Missouri, and spent the rest of his life peacefully living off the land until he died at the age of 85.

Daniel Boone discovered and developed one of the most important gateways for early American setters to reach the Trans Appalachian West. Today, Boone is still a symbol of the Western Pioneering spirit.

Frontiersmen like Boone, have to be admired by a lot of us. Without them America wouldn’t be what it is today. We don’t often think of Kentucky as being a western state, but at one time it was.

I love history and have read a lot about Daniel Boone. I also remember a TV show that featured him and I learned a lot from that too.

I was supposed to be meeting with friends today to take a tram ride around our park in the middle of our city. I feel like a pioneer when going there, but it probably won’t be today as it’s supposed to rain today and it’s all weather dependent. We’ve already rescheduled to next week.

Our parks offer this tram ride so we can see more of our parks. They show a good view of all there is to see. At one time I might have been able to walk the distance, but I can no longer do this so I’m thankful they provide the opportunity for me to see it all.

Today’s pictures are of some of my family going for hikes in our parks. Ohio has a lot of wonderful state parks.

It looks like it’s going to be a day to stay in and get some housework done. We found out yesterday that one of my out of state sons is coming in for a visit this summer so I’d like the house to look ship shape when he comes in.

It’s always a work in progress here.

What a picturesque spot for a stroll! Those tram tours are a great idea! I'd love to play tourist around Montgomery but sadly, Tom's health situation doesn't allow for much walking. I used to watch Fess Parker as Daniel Boone on TV, but don't remember the shows containing any of these interesting tidbits.; June 7, 2022 at 2:28 PM
