ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR WEDNESDAY,AUGUST 28TH, 2019
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Cherry Turnover Day which is a delicious pastry that can be enjoyed for breakfast or dessert. The are classified as portable pies. Other dishes in this culinary family include pasties, empanadas and spring rolls.
A traditional Cheery Turnover recipe calls for puff pastry and then this is stuffed with a gooey cheery filling and baked golden brown. There are many variations of this classic treat though. Some recipes call for cream cheese, extra lemon juice or even ice cream.
To celebrate Cherry Turnover Day, bake your own homemade cherry turnovers to share with friends and family. Bon Appetit!
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side .
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Nothing spells lovin like somethin from the oven
Pillsbury
I have a family recipe for turnovers from my Mom. They are not the kind made from puff pastry, but they are very good. How ever I’m missing the recipe. She’d always make them at Christmas. She also made pineapple filling too, not just cherry. I think I liked the pineapple ones best. This is not mom’s recipe but one I found online that sounds pretty good.
Cherry Turnovers
2 2/3 d. flour
1 tsp salt
6 tables cold water
Filling
2 c. pitted tart cherries
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Glaze:
1 c. Confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 to 2 tbsp milk
In large bowl combine flour and salt; cut in to shortening until crumbly. Much like pie crust. Gradually add water, tossing with fork until dough forms a ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 30 minutes or overnight.
Meanwhile in large saucepan, combine cherries and sugar. Mash slightly. Let stand for 15 to 20 minutes . Stir in cornstarch until blended . Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir until thickened. Remove from heat, stir in cinnamon and cool.
Divide dough into eight portions. On a lightly floured surface roll out each portion in a 5 inch circle. Place about 1 tbsp. filling on one side of each circle. Fold dough over and press edges with a fork to seal. Prick tops with a fork. Place on greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Meanwhile in small bowl, combine confections’s sugar, vanilla and milk to achieve desired consistency. Drizzle over warm turnovers. Serve warm.
Cherries are good and good for you too. They are a goods source of fiber, vitamins and minerals including potassium, vitamins A and folic acid. They are well known for their antioxidant properties too. They may even reduce symptoms of arthritis and gout.
Here's hoping I find mom’s recipe before Christmas comes… Today’s pictures are of more of the grands going back to school. There should be more as the ones locally don’t start until next week.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Life is just a bowl of cherries, don’t take it serious, it’s mysterious. Life is just a bowl of cherries , so live and laugh, laugh at love, love a laugh. laugh and love.

Oh, yum! Such great photos, Ma. I hope they'll be treasured for years and years to come!
And what about that great ladder art in the first image! We don't have a big front porch to speak of, but I want to show this to my crafty DIL.
PS - What a wonderful surprise to see your comment earlier. I did a little happy dance all the way to my car!
