ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SATURDAY,AUGUST 17TH, 2019
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Thrift Shop Day which is an opportunity to go shopping for some good bargains. Nearly every town has a thrift shop or second hand store. They are stores that sell old, used and vintage items for discounted prices. They are also called secondhand shops, a consignment shop or a resale shop . Charities often run thrift stores as a way of rising money for their causes. Thrifting, the art of buying cheep clothing and household items from thrift stores, is not only money saving but environmentally friendly. As it gives us a chance to recycle items we no longer need.
To celebrate, spend a fun day sifting through old things to find treasure. Who knows you might end up getting homie with a priceless work of art.
They say that the word thrift cones from the Old Norse Prift, meaning prosperity.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Summer’s lease has too short a date.
William Shakespear
I love to go to thrift shops in the hopes of finding a good bargain. I’ve always loved them and found it a great way to supplement my wardrobe when I went back to work. The prices fit my purse and I didn’t have to spend much to dress well.
I used to take my old clothing, shoes and purses to a consignment shop and often bought new things there too. It was called New to You!. I even worked there for a short while on weekends. We all get tired of wearing the same things all the time and like to have something new to wear. It was a win win situation for me. The money I earned selling my old things let me buy some new to me items.
These days, I pretty much wear the same old things and don’t really need anything new, but I still like to look and will buy something if it’s a bargain.
We are celebrating the end of summer today with a family get together for dinner this evening and I’m so thankful we can find a reason to be together before the busy back to school season happens. It’s also commemorating DS#1’s birthday which is the 29th and for most of his school years that was the day before school began. He was a good student and excelled in his studies and graduated from College with honors.
It’s always good to honor those we have loved and lost. He will always be remembered with happiness as that is the kind of person he was. Always full of life and joy. The pictures today are of him. I hope to have pictures of our gathering to share tomorrow. It’s always a good time when family gets together!
No cooking for the weekend today, as we are going out to dinner! What a treat for me.! Hopefully I’ll have leftovers to have for dinner tomorrow!
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

I like to take advantage of every family celebration, you never know when will be the next time you'll see them.
Enjoy your family celebration honoring your firstborn son, Ma! Great pictures you shared! I love going to the Goodwill store here. I always find toys for my grandson and clothes for him. I look for winter clothes in summer for him and then summer clothes in winter since everyone else is concentrating on the present season and not looking ahead. I try to get him at least a week's worth of clothes for the different seasons and have been successful so far in doing so!

Even though I never knew him, seeing these pictures brings a lump to my throat. These reminds me, one of my FB friends shared a neat phrase: #MomentsMatter. (I told Mary, I'm going to steal that!)
Gosh, I can't remember the last time I purchased an article of (outer) clothing retail. Consignment shopping is such fun! Thrift shops, too! We've a BBQ to attend today, and now I'm wanting to go thrifting instead. :)
