ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Donut Day which was created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served doughnuts to the soldiers during World War I.
Whether it’s powdered, jelly filled or frosted this classic treat is always delicious, making National Donut Day a great reason to celebrate.
To celebrate, many eateries are handing out free donuts today so be sure to check out your local donut shops for promotions as well.
In honor of the day, pick up a freshly made donut or buy a box to share !
Today is also National Chocolate Ice Cream Day and Daniel Boone Day.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Friday is a great day to finish your goals for the week.

It’s no secret that I love donuts so I will definitely be celebrating today and I have some more pictures to share of the National Donut Trail in Ohio. The trail spans 80 miles and covers 12 donut shops. When you start at anyone of the shops you get a passport that each store will stamp as you go. If you visit 11 out of 12 shops you get a free T shirt the end.
I’ve yet to go on this trail but some of the people in my family have done so and had a great time, that’s is how I happen to have pictures to share.
Some donuts are baked and some are fried and the recipe I’m sharing today is for fried cakes. It’s been years since I made them, but hope to do that soon.
Cake Donuts
Makes 24 servings
Vegetable Oil
3 1/3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. milk
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3 tbsp. shortening
2 eggs
Donut Icing, if desired
Heat 3 to 4 inches of oil to 375 degrees
In large bowl, beat 1 1/2 cups of the flour and remaining ingreadients, except for Icing, with an electric mixer on low sped, scraping bowl constantly. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed then stir in remaining flour.
On a generously floured surface roll out lightly to coat. Genly rolll to a 3/8 inch thickness. Cut out with a floured 2 1/2 inch donut cutter.
Fry donuts in oil, 2 or 3 at a time turning as they rise to the surface. Fry 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown on both sides. Remove from oil with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Cool slightly and frost if desired. I like mine rolled powered sugar.
Today is what I’m calling Finish it Up Friday. I’ve started but not completed a lot of things around here this week and today I hope to finish them up so that my time is freed up for the weekend. I need to finish the laundry, the yard work, and straighten up the house.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

ADVICE FOR TODAY

Donuts are good and donuts are fun, I think I'll have another one!
That would be fun on the donut trail. Someone was clever with thinking about it and getting all the shops involved. All the pictures of the donuts looked delicious! I haven't had a donut in years and probably won't have one today but they certainly are tasty and such a great variety to choose from!
betty
Tom's favorites are the cake donuts, too. On the other hand, if I'm going to indulge I'd like the biggest, baddest cream-filled one in the shop. Such a cute idea of a donut trail!
Summer took Rayne to a donut shop this morning to celebrate!
I am having a Finish it Up kind of Friday, too! We had planned to go to the ranch but are giving it one more day to dry out a bit more. It's no fun hiking in from the gate in the mud carrying all our stuff. We can take it slow and easy today and leave the house all clean.
Louis Dean had his last doctor appointment until Decemeber so we are done for awhile!!
Happy Weekend to you!
Are you in Middletown? Our daughter lives there.
No, I'm not from middletown, it was one of the stops on the Donut Trail.
