Today is Smile Power day which is a chance to give everyone you meet a huge smile.  It’s an expression denoting pleasure, sociability, happiness and amusement.

Smiling is something that is understood by everyone despite culture, race or religion.  Smiling is a means of communication throughout the world.

To celebrate today share your smile and remember that you have the power to put a smile on someone else’s face too!

A smile costs nothing in money, time or effort but it is literally true that it can be of supreme importance in one’s life.

Smiling is such a simple act, but sometimes takes a lot of effort.  Smiles can do wonders, they make others happier and we feel happier too.  

There is magic in your smile.  Every time you smile, you throw a little feel good party in your brain.  This relaxes your body and can lower your heart rate and blood pressure.  You don’t have to worry about any negative side effects and you don’t need a prescription from your doctor.  

Most of the smiles I get these days are from my grandchildren.  They always make me smile and that is what the pictures are of today…some of my smiling grandchildren.

Today is my day to cook up something for the weekend, but I am sharing a recipe for a dessert I made yesterday.  I had some blueberries that needed to be use and tried out a new recipe and it’s delicious.

Blueberry Buckle

3/4 c. sugar

1/4 c. butter

1 egg

1/2 milk

2 c. flour

2 tsp. baking power

1/2 tsp salt. 

1 to 2 c.blueberries

Cream butter and sugar, add beaten egg.  Alternately add milk and flour that is mixed with salt and baking power. Fold in blueberries. Spread in a greased and floured 9 by 9 inch pan.  Sprinkle with topping and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minute.

Topping

1/2 c. sugar

1 tsp. cinnamon

1/3 c. flour

1/4 c. butter

Combine and spread on buckle before baking.

We’ve had some cool nights lately so I haven’t had to worry about it being too hot to turn the oven on.  Matter of fact it felt good. They say that rainy days will return and remain in much of the foreseeable forecast.  Time, once again, to make our own sunshine.
