ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is According to Hoyle Day which celebrates the life and times of Englishman Edmond Hoyle who died on this day in 1769.
A lawyer by trade, Edmond Hoyle is best know for publishing books detailing the rules and regulations of many popular card and board games of his time including chess and backgammon. He is also known for writing a pamphlet on the card game of Whist.
The phrase according to Hoyle came from the authoritative books Hoyle wrote on the rules and regulations of games.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the game.
Randy Pausch
I’ve kept the Book of Hoyle here on the bookshelf for many years and it’s been used over and over when someone wanted to know the exact rule of playing certain games. Now a days I don’t play many card games at all but have enjoyed many a game over the years.
The pictures today are from one of the many games played at family gatherings over the years. Lots of fun and laughter have been shared when we get together.
Today also celebrates the birthday of my first son. He was the oldest of my 7 children and is certainly missed by all. He was a great son, a wonderful husband and dad and a good friend to all. The day he was born is a day I’ll never forget and he is son worth remembering too, so today I’m celebrating his life and remembering…
We should see some cooling off as far as temps go today. Rain is moving in and we’ll probably have some thunderstorms, then it will be cooler. Not to worry though there will still be several more warmer days ahead. The long range forecast says we’ll still be in the 80’s until week after next when we’re to be in the 70’s.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
One should play fairly when one has the winning cards.
Oscar Wilde
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Every day is a day to celebrate but birthdays are extra special !
Happy Birthday to your special son in Heaven Pam! I have enjoyed all of your family photos here today! You have a beautiful family and you clearly all enjoy each other's company! I also learned something new here with your information on Hoyle. I never knew any of this! I used to play some card games, but I am one who can never remember the rules. For some reason they don't stick in my head and I need to be retaught every time I play! I do love playing however! I play Words with Friends and do enjoy that, and solitaire, which I also enjoy. Happy Wednesday! xoxo
A good day to remember your firstborn son! It was indeed a happy day when he was born! How fun with the pictures of your family gatherings! Playing games together is a great way to connect with each other and it comes with a lot of fun too! Now I know who Hoyle; I've seen some cards with that name on it and couldn't figure out exactly why they were called that. He was very inventive with games!

Happy heavenly birthday to your DS#1. Bittersweet, those memories!
It's been a very long time since I sat down to play a game ... and have quite forgotten how to play most everything. (A book of Hoyle might be in order?) I recall my aunt coming to visit for my confirmation and teaching mother and I to play Canasta … how I became hooked, and used to hound my mother to play with me. Good times, for sure!
Happy heavenly birthday to your son. These are definitely birthdays to celebrate as we love them and miss them. We always used to consult the book Of Hoyle. Lots of cheaters in my family. Hope you are enjoying the end of summer!
A Special Happy Birthday...
