Today is Letter Writing Day which is a day to take a few minutes, and send someone a hand written letter.
Letter writing is an almost lost skill. Most letters and notes nowadays, are on emails and instant messages. Or, they are typed on an computer keyboard. Participate in this unique day, by sending someone a hand written letter today. The recipient will be glad you did
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
In an age like ours, which is not given to letter writing, we forget what an important part it used to play in people's lives.
Anatole Broyard
For years I wrote a Christmas letter and sent it out with my Christmas cards. Now I no longer do that as most of the people I keep in contact with read my daily post so they already know what’s been going on here at my house.
Letter writing for me has gone the way of most…it’s not done much at all. What would we do without computers and the internet.
Today I’m hopefully headed out to shop. I really need to get as much done as possible for Christmas. It’s nice that I can go out during the day when most are either working or in school. The stores are less crowded and there is less traffic to contend with.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
National Cotton Candy Day is today. Cotton Candy is a popular summertime treat. Why we celebrate this day in the middle of December is a good question.
The Cotton Candy machine was patented in 1899 by William Morrison and John C. Wharton. They brought it to the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904, where is was quite popular. Cotton Candy is a favorite at amusement parks, circuses, fairs, and sports venues.
Cotton Candy was originally called fairy floss. It is made from Floss / Flossine sugar. Now, you can buy it already made and packaged at the candy store or supermarket. So I'm posting a simple recipe for Cotton Candy Hot Chocolate. The cotton candy is used as you would use marshmallows on top of the cocoa. The cotton candy also acts as the sugar for your cocoa, so you can reduce the sugar in your hot chocolate recipe.
COTTON CANDY HOT CHOCOLATE
1 1/2 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
1 1/2 ounces unsweetened cocoa
3/4 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
Cotton candy
In saucepan over low medium heat, combine cocoa powder, chocolate, cornstarch, and sugar with small whisk. With a little bit of milk, whisk chocolate to avoid lumps. Add milk gradually while whisking continuously. Turn off heat when hot chocolate thickens and reaches consistency you like. If it's too thick, add more milk. Serve hot with cotton candy on top. The cotton candy serves as the sugar so amount can be adjusted.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love!
Hamilton Wright Mabie
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4456. for handwritten letters, a rare thing indeed. I still have some from my grandmother.
4457. for hot chocolate, a sweet and tasty treat.
4458. for clear roads, no snow, to drive on
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY

So true about letter writing becoming a lost art these days. I remember how my mom would look forward to the letters she received from her sisters and other family members after she moved away from them all.
Hoping you got done what you needed to for Christmas with your shopping today!

I can't even remember the last time I wrote a handwritten letter. I really do like emails better. I don't at all feel it is impersonal. Have a fun shopping trip today!!
Yes, I recall the anticipation and delight, seeing my mother's lovely script lingering in my mailbox. Goodness, 'mail-call' used to be such a treat. Now, we MAYBE check the box once a week and 90% of it is 'junk.'
Have you heard of cotton-candy grapes? My co-worker Diana brought in a big bunch of green grapes this summer and invited me to try. When I (politely) declined, she said, "Just SNIFF!" Sure enough, they smelled just like I remember Cotton Candy at the State Fair.
