WELCOME WINTER
3 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
Sunrise: 7:51 am
Sunset: 5:02 pm
Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Look on the Bright Side Day is today. It's hoped we see the light. Literally looking on the bright side may be a bit difficult today. It is winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. And, December days tend to be cloudy.
Look on the Bright Side Day is a day to be optimistic. The term itself is an optimistic one. It calls upon us to look for something positive, out of an otherwise bad or sad situation. Often, a bad experience has positive lessons to be learned.
If you have a bad day yesterday, look on the bright side. Today is another day, and an optimistic one at that!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Today is one of my favorite days. I’ve learned to look on the bright side and hope you all will too. Even when the world turns upside down, there is always something good to find in everyday if you look for it. Being positive is not all about wearing a smile upon our faces, it is about being happy in our minds and hearts.
The phrase ‘Look at the Brightside’ is a way of someone telling us to be cheerful and optimistic despite of the difficulties one may be facing during the day.
It’s been an especially hard time of it for me, but there is so much good to find in every day. I look for that and find it more often than not. I have a wonderful family that makes my days all the brighter for their being a part of it.
I have my faith which renews my strength daily. No matter what happens in life I know the good Lord is with me each step of the way.
I have wonderful friends that fill my life with laughter. No matter what happens I know they’ll be there for me too.
So always look for the silver lining
And try to find the sunny side of life.
P. G. Wodehouse
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Ribbon Candy Day
Thin enough to melt in your mouth, ribbon candy is shiny, sweet, colorful ribbons of candy, distinctive in color and shape. The holiday treat was created centuries ago in Europe, where confectioners first designed it to decorate their shops, and the curls were done by hand around the candy maker’s thumb. Today the candy is manufactured on a large scale with machines but is still carefully tended by candy makers to make sure the delicate ribbons come out perfectly.
HOMEMADE RIBBON CANDY
1/2 c. soft butter
3 tbsp. strawberry flavor mix
1/2 tsp. almond or lemon flavor
1/8 tsp. salt
3 1/4 c. confectioners’ sugar
1/2 c. soft butter
3 tbsp. chocolate flavor mix
1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
1/8 tsp. salt
3 1/4 c. confectioners’ sugar
Combine butter, strawberry flavor mix, flavoring and salt; beat until creamy. Beat in 2 3/4 cups of the confectioners' sugar gradually. Knead in remaining 1/2 cup of sugar.
Repeat recipe the same for the chocolate flavoring.
Divide each flavor in half. Layer strawberry, chocolate, strawberry, chocolate into foil lined pan. Cover, chill. Cut into 1/2 inch squares. Remove from pan.
Swallow your pride, it's nonfattening. Ha!
This recipe is not thinly rolled out like the traditional ribbon candy but so called because of the different layers.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love!
Hamilton Wright Mabie
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4498. for the bright side of life, it’s there if you look for it.
4499. for traditional candy that always reminds me of Christmas
4500. for my faith, my family and friends, the important things in life.
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Grab your coat, and get your hat
Leave your worry on the doorstep
Just direct your feet
To the sunny side of the street.
Dorothy Fields
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,
ma

Looking on the bright side is a great way to live! It is neat there is a special day for it and that it is on the winter solstice. I know you do your best to always look on the bright side, Ma :) I'm looking forward to more light coming back in the mornings and evenings as the days start to get a little brighter :)

Like you Pam, I try hard to look on the bright side of things. Life is hard, but we only make it harder if we are always looking on the dark side. We have much to be grateful for. I loved your family photos. You are so blessed to be able to spend the time you do with them. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas. God bless you! xoxo
I'm so sorry to hear you've been experiencing some difficult days. It's good, then, you can visit your 'medicine cabinet' of Positive thoughts and silver linings. (((HUGS)))
Loving singing 'sunny side of the street'!
I'm trying to learn to look on the bright side. It isn't easy after a lifetime of seeing my cup as half empty. I love ribbon candy. Used to be my favorite when I was a kid. Have a merry Christmas Ma.
