Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today, December 14th, is Monkey Day. The day celebrates monkeys and all other primate cousins of humans such as apes, chimpanzees, and gibbons.
Monkey Day is a good day to get out there and do it proper, by monkeying around!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Winter is not a season, it’s an occupation.
Sinclair Lewis
There is not much monkeying around going on here at my house. Seriously, it’s been mostly all work and no play here. They say we will probably have some more snow moving in here tomorrow and that means there will probably be even more work coming my way too.
Thankfully Christmas is coming and there will be some occasions to celebrate and have some fun. I’m ready for at least a day or two to set aside what needs to be done and just enjoy some quality time with family.
I made a big pot of soup this week and put half in the freezer. There’s nothing like hot soup to warm you up on these cold days!
Keep Warm and stay safe everyone !
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It's National Bouillabaisse Day, a day to celebrate a tasty Mediterranean fish stew or soup.
Bouillabaisse is believed to have originated in Marseilles, France. It is extremely popular all around the Mediterranean, and is a specialty in ports across the region.
Bouillabaisse is a fish stew or soup. All agree the fish should be white fillets. Recipes call for variety of fish, including cod, snapper, flounder, halibut, sea bass, monk fish, and more.
Celebrate National Bouillabaisse Day with a cup or bowl or this tasty stew.
I have to say I’ve never had Bouillabaisse. But I did find a recipe to try out.
Simple Bouillabaisse
1 cup olive oil
2 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded and sliced
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 carrot, peeled and very thinly sliced
2 pinches saffron
1 bay leaf
4 sprigs parsley
2 cloves garlic
1 pound each boned and skinned cod and halibut, cut into 2 inch pieces
2 cups peeled and deveined medium shrimp
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1 cup rich fish broth
1/2 cup white wine
6 slices toasted country bread
In a large saucepan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the tomatoes, onion, carrot, saffron, bay leaf and parsley. Peel and crush 1 garlic clove and add it to the pan. Add the fish, shrimp and lemon juice, season with salt and pepper and boil for 10 minutes. Add the fish broth and wine, bring to a rapid simmer and cook until the fish is just cooked through. Adjust the seasoning, adding more saffron, lemon juice, salt and pepper as desired.
Rub the toasts with the remaining peeled garlic clove. Set a toast in the bottom of each of 6 bowls and ladle the soup on top.

How cute with the monkey day! They are always fun to watch at the zoo. A warm pot of soup is a good way to end the day with all the work you have been doing. I love to make meals like this that can be stretched for a few days. We are supposed to be in the mid 70s today and tomorrow and then we get cooler temps in the 60s with some rain :)

I think I celebrate monkey day all the time. I am always monkeying around! I like making huge pots of soup and freezing the leftovers for my lunches during the week. I laughed at Betty's cooler temps (above) 60 here would feel so good right now. As we hover around the 0 mark!
I made a large pot of soup Monday it sure was good. It's wet and cloudy here not all that cold but we are sitting around the electric fire place and it feels great. Take care and be careful cleaning up your snow. Jean
How about giving us your recipe for the soup that you made? Come on, you know you want to!! xx
I wish I could just jump inside your first image. Something about it just tugs at my heart strings.
Yep, like Betty said, we're due for some cold (for US!) temps this weekend. May be high time to try and make my first-ever batch of chili. (Doesn't that count as soup?)
