83 DAYS UNTIL SPRING
Sunrise: 7:53 am

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Make Cut Out Snowflake Day which is a great day to show your crafty skills, as you make paper snowflakes. Making cut out snowflakes is a great project for kids. However, you don't have to be a kid, to have fun making paper snowflakes. It's a skill that is practiced by many people.
They say no two snowflakes are alike. It shouldn't come as a surprise, that there are seemingly countless different snowflake designs. Templates abound, from fast and easy patterns, to intricate time consuming designs to challenge the most practiced snowflaker.
So, if you like snow, bring it on! Bring out the paper and scissors, and cut out some paper snowflakes on this very special Make Cut Out Snowflake Day.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Like snowflakes, my Christmas memories gather and dance — each beautiful, unique and too soon gone.
Deborah Whipp
I love snowflakes and snow men and used to have quite a collection of them to decorate my tree with. I still have a few, but have given most of them away. I’ve tried to downsize the decorations here, but still have way too many.
Cutout paper snowflakes are fun to do, however, and don’t take up much space. They look delightful in the windows, on the tree or even hanging in the doorways. Best of all they are fun to do with the grandchildren.
The weather man says we’ll have a chance of real snow coming our way toward the end of the week, but for right now we are snow free!
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Fruitcake Day
I looked for and could not find a fruit cake at all in any of the stores I went to before Christmas, so there is no fruit cake here at my house. It’s not something I traditionally make myself, but I do enjoy a slice or two now and then. So today’s recipe is a variation and not at all like the fruitcakes you may have had in the past, but sill it looks easy to make.
FRESH APPLE FRUIT CAKE
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 1/2 c. raw apples
2 tsp. soda
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. mace
1/4 tsp. cloves
2 c. raisins
1 c. nuts
3/4 c. dates
Mix in order given. Put spices in flour, then flour raisins and dates with some of the flour. Stir in well. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour or until done.
I do love apple cake so I hope to try this recipe soon.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love!
Hamilton Wright Mabie
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4516. for snowflakes, each one beautiful and unique
4517. for fruit, good in cakes
4518. for dry walkways and roads, no snowflakes here
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
A snowflake is one of God's most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together!

Happy Cut Out Snowflake Day Pam! I used to love cutting out snowflakes. I also used to crochet snowflakes with thread and had a lot of them, angels and little bells on our tree when the children were growing up. Love the photo of your son. What a happy looking face! Your recipe looks wonderful. I love apple cakes also. Thanks so much for all that you share. God bless you! xoxo
When the kids were little, we made many a cut out snowflake and had so much fun decorating the house with them :) I too like snowmen and have a lot of them in my Christmas decorations :)

I've not thought of paper snowflakes since what, 3rd grade? So much fun!
This photo of your son in the gingerbread apron just made me chuckle out-loud. (Thanks, I needed that tonight!)
