THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Safety saves sickness, suffering, sadness.
Safety saying, circa early 1900s
It’s always good to be aware of the diseases that can affect our lives and the preventative measures we can take to prevent them. Aids is definitely one that can be prevented. We all need to educate ourselves and our children too. It’s important that everyone understand the dangers of HIV/AIDS, and just as important that they understand how it’s contracted. Not just as a way to avoid contracting it, but to reduce the fear that surrounds this horrible condition.
This week is moving right along and I’ve been busy as always. The pictures today show just a few of the things that will be going out to Salvation Army . Thankfully we got 6 bins emptied but there are at least that many more to go just with Christmas decorations. DD was holding some things up as we took pictures for one of my sons that thought he might want some of my old Christmas Decorations. Isn’t she pretty?
Today I hope to visit with my sisters and BIL. There’s a slight chance of rain, but on the bright side, it’s better than snow!
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Eat a Red Apple Day is today. We hope you eat an apple today, and every day.
Apples are delicious. Apples are nutritious. That's a great combination.
Have caramelized apples with your french toast or pancakes. Have an apple and walnut salad for lunch and pork chops with apples for dinner. And don't forget the apple pie for dessert!
Caramelized Apples
4 large tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 cup cold water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
In a large skillet or saucepan, melt butter over medium heat; add apples. Cook, stirring constantly, until apples are almost tender, about 6 to 7 minutes.
Dissolve cornstarch in water; add to skillet. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Almighty and eternal God,

with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !

I hope all your treasures eventually find a home where they will be loved. We would all like to keep every single one but sometimes we just have to thin out. Don't work too hard and I am glad you are having help from your family.
Lots of great looking Christmas decorations you featured here, Ma. Your daughter indeed is very beautiful! Glad she could help you sort through the things. Its neat if you can pass some of the things onto your children too! Enjoy your day with your sisters and BIL!
betty
I doubt my kids will want any of the things I am getting rid of. Your daughter is very pretty! I was a brand new nurse when the Aids/HIV crisis was coming about in the USA. It was scary as heck. We had so much to learn. I only took care of ONE patient (that we knew about) with Aids/HIV during my career. I know it is out there. But we don't hear about it as much here in Kansas. I don't think that is a good thing either.
I was just about to say, your DD is so lovely!
Only tonight I spotted a news story about Prince Harry and Rhianna (sp?) publicizing World AIDS Awareness Day. I remember the first time I visited my dentist and he was wearing a face mask. At first I was a bit offended (knee-jerk reaction); only then the scope of the AIDS crisis began to hit home.
