Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Roof Over Your Head Day. It is a day of appreciation for the things we have, starting with the roof over our heads.
For most of us, a roof over our head signifies living in a house that protects us from the elements, keeping us warm, dry, and cozy. Unfortunately, not everyone is as lucky as you and I. There are many homeless people right here in our country. Some people live in a cardboard box on the street, literally. There are millions of people around the world who live in poverty or disaster areas, and do not have a home to keep them comfortable and safe.
Spend a few minutes being thankful that you are not homeless, and appreciating your roof and home today. Also make a contribution to a homeless shelter, so others can come in out of the rain.
Happy National Roof Over Your Head Day!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.
At the end of a long day, there’s nothing quite like coming back to a warm house, with family and friends. When you’ve been working, or its cold outside, or even when you’ve just gone out for a walk, home is the place you dream of coming back to.
Even though the place I call home may be changing. I try to remember that home is where the heart is. I’ve always been blessed to have a home that gives shelter and comfort and I’ve no doubt that will not change. The thing is home is what we make it. I’ve always tried to make it a place to be cozy when it’s cold outside and restfully cool in the heat.
Our homes are an extension of who we are: what we do within the walls of our abodes shapes our mood, affects our productivity, and influences our outlook on life.
This morning I’ll be going to a Holiday Boutique with DD. Her son’s school is sponsoring this event and I’m hoping that just maybe I’ll find some gifts for Christmas there. I also hope to get some laundry done and maybe another storage bin sorted out. Thankfully I now have several empties to use to pack away the things I want to keep.
Hopefully I can make a little sense out of all this mess here at my house and even start writing out my Christmas cards!
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is National Apple Pie Day!
Apple pie is the ultimate American dessert! However, apple pie wasn't actually invented in the U.S. Rather, it was invented in Europe sometime during the 14th century. The first apple pie recipe was printed by Geoffrey Chaucer in 1381 in England. The ingredients in the recipe included apples, spices, raisins, figs, pears, and saffron which was all enveloped in a pastry crust.
Several Dutch apple pie recipes date back to the late 15th century. They were similar to the English recipes, except that they added a scoop of ice cream placed on top before being served. This tradition of apple pie à la mode eventually caught on in America. Today, many people continue to enjoy their warm apple pie topped with ice cream!
To celebrate National Apple Pie Day, bake a delicious apple pie or pick one up at your local bakery to share with your family. Just don't forget the ice cream!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home, sweet home
For there the heart can rest.
Henry van Dyke
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

I do thank God often for the house we live in or have lived in before. It is true it is not a blessing that everyone has. It is hard to see all the homeless people out there and the conditions they live in. The boutique sounds like a fun thing to go to! Enjoy!

A great perspective. (But for the grace of God .....)
Owing to mental illness/whatever, some have chosen that lifestyle, but my heart hurts for their children and animals who've no alternatives.
My hubby would LOVE this recipe ... his favorite dessert. Since I don't like fruit, and we try not to keep sweets around, he has to be content with a 'to-go' SLICE now and then. LOL!
