Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Poinsettia Day, a day to celebrate the ever popular red flower used around the Christmas holiday season. The vibrant red poinsettia celebrates the magic of Christmas.
The poinsettia plant’s connection to the Christmas season dates back to 16th century Mexico. Legend tells of a little poor girl who had nothing to bring to church for Christmas. On her way to church, she picked some plants by the side of the road. As she entered the church, the leaves at the tips of the branches turned into bright, brilliant red flowers. You guessed it... Poinsettias.
The House of Representatives in 2002 created Poinsettia Day to honor the father of the poinsettia industry, Paul Ecke. The date of December 12th marks the death of Joel Roberts Poinsett, the man responsible for bringing the plant to the United States.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things - not the great occasions - give off the greatest glow of happiness.
Bob Hope
I love the beautiful Poinsettia plants you see everywhere this time of year. Their colors of Red and Green truly do represent Christmas. If you have a poinsettia plant remember to keep your plant in a cool, but not drafty, place to lengthen its lifespan. Don’t overwater it or let it sit in water, as it doesn’t appreciate wet feet.
Ah yes, we got snow over the weekend and it probably won’t be going away any time soon as it’s going to be very cold this week with some temps dipping way down in the single digits. BrrrChill! Bundle up and keep warm everyone !
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Cocoa Day!
I found this recipe to share for today.
Dreamy Creamy Hot Chocolate
1, 14-ounce, can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 1/2 cups hot water
Mini Marshmallows, optional
In a large saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, cocoa, vanilla and salt; mix well. Over medium heat, slowly stir in water; heat through, stirring occasionally. DO NOT BOIL. Top with marshmallows, if desired.
Tip: Chocolate can be stored in the refrigerator up to 5 days. Mix well and reheat before serving.
COUNTING MY GIFTS

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4471. for beautiful poinsettias, the Christmas flower
4472. for hot chocolate to warm the tummy
4473. for the road crews that work hard to clear our roads
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

You will have to make a cup of cocoa to keep warm with the cold temps coming your way! Poinsettia are indeed so pretty. Most churches I've been in around the Christmas season use them in their decorations :)

How my mother loved her poinsettias! As a matter of fact, my former in-laws in Florida had them growing lush and large in their back yard.
We're supposed to have a hot-chocolate social at work this Thursday ... and wouldn't you know, the forecast says it's going to be 78 degrees. Send us some of your cool weather, won't you please?!
