Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Static Electricity Day. It's a great excuse to play with static electricity! Rub a balloon to build up static, and then have fun by making your hair stand on end.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Winter is not a season, it’s an occupation.
Sinclair Lewis
Static electricity can be a shocking experience. I know that during the winter months my hair flies and I’ve been shocked more than once. The air is dryer and it helps if we use a humidifier to put some moisture back in the air. In the summer we try to take the moisture out and in the winter we want to put it back in. Seems we’re never satisfied with what we’ve got.
I’m already dreaming about spring when in fact winter has really just begun. We still have a couple of more months of cold and snow to to look forward to.
This week I found some delicious grapefruit in the store. It’s chocked full of sunshine. These days it pays to put some extra vitamin C into our diets. January and February are prime time for grapefruit season. Mine says that it came from the great state of Texas, but Florida is also well known for it’s grapefruit crop.
A little mixture of orange, grapefruit and slivered grapes tossed together with citrus sugar and freshly squeezed juice couldn’t taste more right than right now. It’s fresh and light and makes an elegant dessert or a nice addition to any breakfast or brunch. And for a delicious dessert, drizzle a little honey over a half grapefruit and broil for 2 minutes. Serve topped with a fresh mint leaf.
While eating a grapefruit won’t keep the cold and flu away; if you eat grapefruit while you already have a cold or the flu it may make the illness go away sooner. Grapefruits can help calm sore throats and coughs too. Grapefruit is an excellent source of vitamin C, a vitamin that helps to support the immune system. Vitamin C rich foods like grapefruit may help reduce cold symptoms or severity of cold symptoms. Don’t forget to eat your oranges and your grapefruit !
The pictures today are from this time last winter. We may have snow next week, but nothing here yet.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday !

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
No winter lasts forever; no spring skips it's turn.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

Please note: I saw the following notice on blogger buzz this morning and wanted to share it with you all in case you didn't see it. I have a Yahoo account that lets me access Blogger so I'm thinking this will be affecting me. Just wanted you to know in case I can no longer make posts here.
starting the week of January 11, we’ll remove the ability for people with Twitter, Yahoo, Orkut or other OpenId providers to sign in to Google Friend Connect and follow blogs. At the same time, we’ll remove non-Google Account profiles so you may see a decrease in your blog follower count.
We encourage you to tell affected readers (perhaps via a blog post), that if they use a non-Google Account to follow your blog, they need to sign up for a Google Account, and re-follow your blog. With a Google Account, they’ll get blogs added to their Reading List, making it easier for them to see the latest posts and activity of the blogs they follow.

Thanks for telling me about the Google account problem, I will mention it in my next post!!
I love your quotes here, "spring never misses its turn". Only thing, I can never exactly remember a quote, by the time, I try it type it here, I might be paraphrasing! HA! Have a great weekend!
Texas is famous for its "ruby red" Texas grapefruit, grown way down near Brownsville. It's pretty as well as tasty. Citrus is grown all along the Gulf Coast. We once lived where we had six type of citrus in the yard.
The reinstitution of the Google Friend Connect (it had been dormant) shouldn't keep you from posting, but you might lose some of your followers. When Google put Friend Connect back online, so to speak, I lost a few who had followed via their other accounts. I guess Google just wants Googlers able to use the gadget!
Gosh, but I'd totally forgotten the fun we kids used to have with static electricity!
Unlike my dear mother, I'm no fan of fruit ... EXCEPT grapefruit! Lovin' those Texas ruby-reds and freezing the juice in ice-cube trays each summer! Now, because DH isn't supposed to consume grapefruit (one of his Rx warns against it), I try not to buy them.
That was interesting from the blogger buzz feed; I'll have to make note of that. Thanks for posting it Ma.
We have a humidifier running here during the winter months; if it drops much below 30% here in the house it can be a shocking experience :)
I do like grapefruit; so many homes in Phoenix have either grapefruit or orange trees on their property; seems like winter months are when they are ready to pick and eat :)
