Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is GOOD FRIDAY! Good Friday is a crucial day of the year because it celebrates what we believe to be the most momentous weekend in the history of the world. We remember the day Jesus willingly suffered and died by crucifixion as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. It is followed by Easter, the glorious celebration of the day Jesus was raised from the dead, heralding his victory over sin and death and pointing ahead to a future resurrection for all who are united to him by faith. The name Good Friday is entirely appropriate because the suffering and death of Jesus, as terrible as it was, marked the dramatic culmination of God’s plan to save his people from their sins. It had to happen for us to receive the joy of Easter.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him
John 3:16-17
We often say TGIF! For me I’m thankful that Good Friday happened and that we still celebrate it. Remembering and giving thanks for the ultimate sacrifice that was given with love. It is a good day to celebrate the positive things in life. Please join me in taking some time today between 12 noon and 3 pm and simply say thank you.
This is a special day in many ways. Many of us have good memories and some bad as we celebrate Good Friday. For years at my house when the children were young this would be our Spring break day as they had off from school and my husband I had off from work. We’d take the day to go someplace special as a family.
Today I’m hoping to spend some time with my two sisters as we’ve a date to go out for lunch to celebrate their birthday, which is tomorrow. They were born on the same day but two years apart. I’m very blessed to have them both and to be their older sister.
I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and remember to give thanks too! There truly is a lot of good to be thankful for in Good Friday!
Legend of the Dogwood Tree
At the time of the crucifixion, the dogwood had reached the size of the mighty oak tree. So strong and firm was the wood that it was chosen as the timber for Jesus' cross.
To be used for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the dogwood. While nailed upon it, Jesus sensed this, and in his compassion said. Because of your pity for my suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used for a cross. Henceforth, it shall be slender, bent, and twisted, and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross–two long and two short petals.
In the center of the outer edge of each petal will be the print of nails. In the center of the flower, stained with blood, will be a crown of thorns so that all who see it will remember.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
We may say that on the first Good Friday afternoon was completed that great act by which light conquered darkness and goodness conquered sin. That is the wonder of our Saviour's crucifixion.
Phillips Brooks
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for a little over a year and have now reached 1500 gifts. On my way to 2000. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.

Happy Birthdays to your sisters! as I had all c sections, son1 told the doctor that son3 could not be born on his birthday, hence why their birthdays are one day apart, lol... I like the story about the dogwood tree... Enjoy your lunch! :)
In my school growing up, from 4th grade to 8th grade, we children were taught to sing in parts, and there was a large choir... one for the boys, one for the girls. We rehearsed our Latin songs for many weeks before the Holy Week services... and for Easter Sunday, when we sang the 6 AM service.
Last night, I sang the latin songs again at our Holy Thursday service... what good memories they brought back!
How neat your two sisters were born the same day a few years apart :) (makes celebrating easier, LOL)
I know you guys will enjoy your lunch together!
That was neat how you had the tradition of doing something special on Good Friday when your kids were younger.
