NEWS FROM HOME

Although I won't be celebrating this birthday today, I will see this little grandson for our family Thanksgiving and we will be celebrating his birthday then.  We're hoping he has his cast off by then!

Also on my calendar it says that today may just be the day to start thawing out my turkey.  If you thaw them in the refrigerator it may take as long as 5-6 days for a 21 pound turkey. So from the freezer to the fridge it goes.  It will take less time if your turkey is smaller so to be on the safe side they say to allow 24 hours for every 4-5 pounds.  

Of course if you buy a fresh turkey you won't have to worry about it at all.  Just make sure to keep it refrigerated until you are ready to roast it.  I got a electric roaster pan to do my turkey in this year.  It's the first time I've used one to make a turkey so we'll see how well that goes.  My youngest sister did that one year and it was delicious.  Very juicy and tender.  Last year DSIL did our turkey in a deep fryer and that was good too.  I really think it's pretty hard to ruin a turkey so wish me good luck.

I got this update from DDIL#5 on the baby:  She has been moved from nicu to continuing care (which is still part of nicu, but a step up). She still isn't eating enough by mouth, but we are still hopeful she'll be home by Wednesday. To add to the fun, she is jaundice, but her levels aren't high enough for phototherapy. Her blood sugar is good, so they no longer have to stick her poor heels for that, just once a day for the jaundice test. So, we are keeping our fingers crossed that our little butterball will be home for thanksgiving.
