It's  WEDNESDAY!  

Happy Halloween !

And, Halloween is one of the favorite holidays of the year. It is the favorite for many  of us, as there is no stress, no overload, and no Holiday Depression . It's just absolutely fun.

History tells us that this holiday comes from ancient times, when people believed donning costumes and masks would protect them on this Hallowed Eve from evil spirits.

In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day.  The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. In a number of countries around the world, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people continue to usher in the winter season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.

There are a lot of superstitions  associated with Halloween and I thought it might be fun to share a  few of them with you today.

Some believe that a child born on Halloween will have supernatural powers, such as the
faculty of perceiving and holding conversations with spirits of the dead.

In Europe, horseshoes were placed over doors to scare off witches that may come
calling, since witches were very much afraid of horses.

A black cat crossing one's path is supposedly bad luck, because cats were witches' companions, or familiars.

One didn't walk under a ladder leaning against a wall because of the triangular shape (a
sacred symbol of religion). If a person did so, he had to knock on wood, because the wood represented the cross.

I guess we've all heard of knocking on wood for luck, and now we know where that saying came from.

The pictures today are of our little Lucky Guy in the pumpkin patch this past weekend.

PRAYER REQUESTS

DDIL # 1 has asked for our prayers for a friend who left Monday to head to the east coast to help hurricane victims.  He is a fireman and an EMT.  He is a good friend and one of our Prince Charming's scout leaders.   May the dear Lord guide and protect those that are helping with the clean up from the terrible storms experienced on the east coast.  

My prayers continue for all who have been effected by this storm.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

There is a child in every one of us who is still a trick-or-treater looking for a brightly-lit front porch.
