ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
APRIL 28TH, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's THURSDAY!
Today is Poem in Your pocket Day. During National Poetry Month, carry a favorite poem to share with friends and coworkers.
In this age of mechanical and digital reproduction, it's easy to carry a poem and to share a poem, . Here are some ideas of how you might get involved:
Handwrite some lines on the back of your business cards
Distribute bookmarks with your favorite immortal lines
Add a poem to your email footer
Post a poem on your blog or social networking page
Text a poem to friends
Poems have been stowed in pockets in a variety of ways, from the commonplace books of the Renaissance to the pocket-sized publications for Army soldiers in World War II.
Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
Robert Frost
A PROVERB FOR TODAY
Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks judgment
Proverbs 10:13
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.
Reinhold Niebuhr
BLUEBERRY PIE DAY
True, blueberries can stain your clothes should you miss your mouth, but their distinctive sweet taste and juicy pop make a fantastic dessert like blueberry pie worth the risk!
And if you should wind up with a forkful of blueberry pie on your shirt, try a little cold club soda to aid with the clean-up!
Blueberry Delight
Crust
1 1/4 cup low-fat graham cracker crumbs
2 tablespoons margarine, melted
1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
Filling
8 ounces fat-free cream cheese, softened
1 egg white, whipped
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
21 ounces blueberry pie filling
Topping
8 ounces Cool Whip
Preheat oven to 350. Prepare a pie pan with cooking spray; set aside.
To prepare crust, combine graham cracker crumbs, margarine, and powdered sugar. Press into prepared pan.
Meanwhile, to prepare filling, combine cream cheese, egg white, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Spread over crust.
Bake for 15 minutes; cool. Then, spread blueberry pie filling over top. Spread whipped topping over blueberry filling.
Chill until ready to serve.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
Poetry is a packsack of invisible keepsakes.
Carl Sandburg
I have many favorites when it comes to poetry. Helen Steiner Rice and Ella Wheeler Wilcox stand out in my mind but then there are many others too. I could make a list a mile long I suppose, but I won't bother to list them all . Poems and quotes are something I like to collect and as you know I very often share them here in this newsletter.
If the weather clears I may be heading for the camper. If not I'll be at home. One way or the other I'll have my trusty computer with me.
Have a Happy Thursday everyone!
COUNTING THE DAYS
LAUGH, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone.
For the sad old earth must borrow it's mirth,
But has trouble enough of it's own.
Ella Wheeler Wilcox
54 DAYS UNTIL SUMMER!
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma
