The International Day of Awesomeness
I found this little known holiday on the web and think it is a great one to celebrate today
The International Day of Awesomeness is a celebration of awesomeness. People are awesome every day, frequently don't realize it, and their feats of awesomeness are rarely recognized. We aim to fix that, with a special day to both perform and celebrate feats of awesomeness!
THINKING
Preheat oven to 400°. Mix flour in a bowl with salt and sugar. Add butter or oil, milk and eggs, and beat until very smooth
Fill well-greased cups in muffin tins, half full with batter. Sprinkle each one liberally with fresh blueberries
Bake in 400° oven 40 mins. for a dark brown shell with a moist interior. Bake in 375° oven 50-55 mins. for a light popover with a drier inside. Keep door of oven closed during the bake period to prevent a collapse under a draft of cold air.
Remove popovers from the oven. Turn from the pans and serve hot. Prick the popovers with a skewer if you like a dry interior. Leave them in the turned-off oven, door slightly ajar, for 8 to 10 minutes.
Symbols of Lent in Our Home
We probably all have a cross or crucifix in our home. If not, Lent might be a wonderful time to buy one and place it in a central place. Even a child’s drawing of Jesus’ death for us can be a powerful, stirring reminder of God’s love.
Water
A simple bowl of water can be transformed into an ongoing reminder of our journey to the font of baptism for the renewal of commitment and life in Christ.
Sand
Perhaps a bowl of sand can help us remember our journey. God led the people in their journey in the desert. Jesus himself reenacted that journey to face his own temptations. The desert can be a place of retreat, where there is a freedom from distractions. It can be a good place to be led and to face our temptations.
A Candle
Place a candle in a central place in our home. When we light this candle we we think of the Light of Jesus
A Bible
The Word is so important for us during Lent. Perhaps the prominent presence of a Bible in our home can represent for us our desire for God’s Word in our lives.
A bit of love from someone near…
