ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
March 7TH, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's MONDAY!
Today is Shrove Monday,Carnival, Fasching, Mardi Gras, Green, or Clean Day depending on where you are and your religion. Got to get all the celebrating done before Lent begins on Wednesday. Around the world the impending onset of Lent is celebrated in many ways.
Icelanders celebrate Shrove Monday, the Monday before Lent, by feasting on cream buns which are filled with jam and whipped cream, and often iced with melted chocolate. It is also know as Collop Monday in various parts of England. The term collop is used to describe the day because it was calliopes that were traditionally eaten. A collop was often a slice of bacon.
Scotch Collops are a traditional Scottish dish. It can be created using either thin slices or minced meat of either beef, lamb or venison. This is combined with onion, salt, pepper and suet, then stewed, baked or roasted with optional flavorings according to the meat used. It is traditionally served garnished with thin toast and mashed potato.
The tradition of celebrating Shrovetide is quite frankly, as old as the hills and depending on where you live there are many different ways to celebrate. Make this Monday a special one.
THINKING
It isn’t sufficient just to want, you’ve got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want

Today: Make a list of steps needed to achieve a goal and take the next one.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Today is Get Grandma to Write Down Her Meatloaf Recipe Day. If you don't, you'll always be sorry.
From memory and not a recipe
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 to 1 1/2 cups oatmeal
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sause
1 egg
3/4 cup ketchup
salt and pepper to taste
1 onion , chopped
Add all ingredients and mix well. I add oatmeal until I feel it is firm enough to shape into a loaf in large baking dish. You can use a loaf pan instead if you desire. Cover the top of the loaf with more ketchup and then bake at 350 degrees for approximately 45 minutes or until juices run clear and top is browned.
This is a recipe I found on the oatmeal box years ago and it's become my favorite meatloaf recipe.
PRAYERS
We can think today of how unique is each and every individual in the world. We’ll pray the shortest psalm in the Bible. It invites people, not of any single country, but the people of all nations to give praise to God:
Praise the Lord, all you nations. Speak to him, all people of the earth, because his love is great and he is always faithful.
Psalm 117
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
I write when I'm inspired, and I see to it that I'm inspired at nine o'clock every morning.

Every morning I am here at my computer writing a newsletter to you all. I never really hear much in the way of replies, but remember if you ever get tired of receiving it, please let me know. You can let me know by replying to this email and I'll remove you from my mailing list. I love putting it together each day as it makes me feel like I'm a little more connected to you all. My hope is that you feel that way too.
Yesterday's celebration went just wonderfully for Mr. Wonderful. It was a snowy day here as we received a few more inches of that white stuff over night. That's northern Ohio for you. One day rain, the next day snow...today I think the sun is going to shine!
COUNTING THE DAYS
If you are willing to admit you are wrong when you are wrong, you are all right.
13 DAYS UNTIL SPRING
42 DAYS UNTIL CAMPING SEASON BEGINS
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
ma

I'm going to try your meat loaf recipe; we've gotten a bit tired of mine, and this sounds good! I love a meat loaf sandwich.
Now who would want to be taken off your mailing list? Your posts are full of interesting, encouraging and practical tidbits!
