THE BRIGHT SIDE

Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.

Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.

Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.

THE BRIGHT SIDE

I'm looking out the window
and the day is drab and dreary,
And I'm trying to console myself
by thinking something cheery
I know it's simply horrible
to get in such a slump
And I also know it's up to me
to get across the hump
And I realize I'm selfish
to mention this to you
For, gee, you might be feeling
a little 'low-down' too
but often when I feel like this
I tell myself it's true
That I am not the only one
who feels 'low-down and blue'
And just knowing there are others
who feel the way I do
Renews my sinking spirit
and keeps me smiling through
and know that it's natural
to take a 'spirit-dive'
Provides the spunk and courage
to hang on and survive
And while there are a lot of moods
that we can drive away
by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE
in all we do and say,
There also is a loneliness
that God meant us to feel
But, gee, it sure is mighty hard
to know which one is real
And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack'
who never saw the sun
And just complained that every day
was such a dreary one.
But I know that all the dark days
are just part of God's plan
We should accept them graciously
and do the best we can...
So I'll just keep on trying
for I know it's 'Gospel true'
there never was a cloud so dark
the sun could not shine through!

On the Bright Side Newsletter

I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal.

The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life.

You'll find quotes, poems and stories and even a few recipes included in this newsletter. I try to find something new each day to share.

In a world that very often publishes only the dark side of things I felt that others would be encouraged to hear about
'the bright side'.

If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side

It's THURSDAY!

Christmas Card Day

Sir Henry Cole (1818 - 1874) of England. Cole created the first commercial Christmas Card in 1843.

Just a few decades ago, sending Christmas cards through the mail was a holiday must. Sending cards through the mail continues to be very popular, but the cost and time for writing and sending cards has caused many people to stop sending them.

Today is a good day to send out your Christmas cards and holiday greetings. If you have yet to do so, use today to get a start.

I've already received several cards but even though I started a few weeks ago, mine are still not done.

THINKING

Christmas is a good time to forgive past hurts.

Christmas is that time of year when we try to say to our family and friends how much they mean to us. A gift may not be the best way. And certainly gifts are given with many motivations in mind. But for most of us there is more joy in giving than receiving. We need this opportunity to express our feelings in a concrete way.

Hopefully, though, our love is not a narrow and exclusive thing. Christmas usually causes us to be more thoughtful about the needs of people we don't even know. It causes us to be more mindful of the needs of those less fortunate.

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Matthew 5.44

NEW IN THE KITCHEN

December 9th is National Pastry Day

There are many types of pastries, like flaky, shortcrust, phyllo, or puff pastry.

Chocolate Bundles

1 Sheet Frozen Puff Pastry

6 ounces Semi-Sweet Chocolate Pieces

1/4 cup Chopped Walnuts

Confectioners Sugar

Thaw pastry for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 425F. On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry to a 12 inch square. Cut into 4-6 inch squares.

In the center of each square, place 1/4 c chocolate chips and 1 Tbsp. walnuts. Bring the corners of the pastry together just above the chocolate, twist and turn. Fan out corners.

Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Let stand at least 10 minutes.

Sprinkle with confectioners sugar and serve.

God of peace, help us to let go of yesterday so we can experience the fullness of life that you offer today

There is a couple more inches of snow on the ground again this morning. This week has been a busy one for me. I've been trying to get all my gifts finished so I can give them for Christmas. Christmas is so very different than it used to be here at my house.

Nezzy (Cow Patty Surprise) said...: Dang, gettin' the cards out WAS on my list today. I made the coconut fudge, peanut clusters and cashew patties. I wrapped the peanut butter, milk chocolate pecan and dark chocolate fudge and then I sat down at the computer. Oops...my bad! Heeehehehe!
