ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
DECEMBER 14th, 2010
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's TUESDAY!
Halcyon Days begin today, a two-week period of calm and tranquility, dating to ancient times when the fabled halcyon bird calmed the wind and waves.
According to legend the seven days before the winter solstice and the seven days following it are a special time of tranquility and calm, due to the magical powers of the halcyon (a fabled bird who nested on the sea and calmed the wind and the waves during the winter solstice). In Puerto Rico, the Yule Child is honored by a religious festival called Navidades, which begins annually on this day. It is celebrated until the sixth of January
It would be nice to have some calm weather right now.
THINKING
Life is always a matter of waiting for the right moment to act.
Paulo Coelho
Today: Exercise patience
These days of Advent are all about highlighting the extraordinary, life enhancing and life changing good news that God can bring into our lives. These moments can often be found in our everyday lives but often quietly and with out fuss. We all need them and when we make the most of them we have balance.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Bouillabaisse Day
Bouillabaisse is the signature fish stew of the Provence region of France. Authentic bouillabaisse contains at least three kinds of cooked fish, as well as shellfish like mussels, crab, or even lobster. Then there are leeks, onions, celery, and potatoes. The many ingredients generally means many servings. And voila! A signature dish becomes an edible event for your favorite small group
Here is a recipe for Hasty Bouillabaisse. I've not tried it and doubt I will but here it is in case your tempted to make a fish stew.
5 green onions, thinly sliced
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons minced parsley
2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
1 can (14 1/2 ounce size) stewed or whole tomatoes
1 cup red wine
3/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1 can (16 ounce size) mixed vegetables or peas and carrots or other veggies
1 can (7 ounce size) tuna, drained and flaked
1 can (6 ounce size) crabmeat, flaked and cartilage removed
1 can (6 ounce size) minced clams, drained
1 can (4 1/4 ounce size) shrimp, rinsed and drained
In large saucepan, cook onions, green pepper, garlic and parsley in oil over medium heat until tender. Add tomatoes, wine and seasonings. Simmer 10 minutes. Add vegetables and seafood. Simmer 10 minutes more or until heated through.
PRAYERS
Thank You for leading me, Lord. Thank You for charting all of my days, planning every event so that it fits miraculously into a pattern of good for my life. You are always with us especially during times of fear and distress. Help us to sense your comfort and your calamine presence when we reach for you in prayer.
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
AROUND HOME
Every mile is two in winter
English Proverb
Today I'm going to spend some time checking my list to make sure I've got everything needed for Christmas. The things I've been making for others are now finished. I was going to try to make more, but I've decided this is it for this year. I spent time yesterday finishing things up.
Now I'll begin wrapping all those things and checking to make sure that nothing and no one has been forgotten. I could keep on adding to what I have but sometimes it's good to say that all is done when what I have is already enough.
COUNTING THE DAYS
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM

Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
