THE BRIGHT SIDE

Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.

Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.

Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.

THE BRIGHT SIDE

I'm looking out the window
and the day is drab and dreary,
And I'm trying to console myself
by thinking something cheery
I know it's simply horrible
to get in such a slump
And I also know it's up to me
to get across the hump
And I realize I'm selfish
to mention this to you
For, gee, you might be feeling
a little 'low-down' too
but often when I feel like this
I tell myself it's true
That I am not the only one
who feels 'low-down and blue'
And just knowing there are others
who feel the way I do
Renews my sinking spirit
and keeps me smiling through
and know that it's natural
to take a 'spirit-dive'
Provides the spunk and courage
to hang on and survive
And while there are a lot of moods
that we can drive away
by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE
in all we do and say,
There also is a loneliness
that God meant us to feel
But, gee, it sure is mighty hard
to know which one is real
And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack'
who never saw the sun
And just complained that every day
was such a dreary one.
But I know that all the dark days
are just part of God's plan
We should accept them graciously
and do the best we can...
So I'll just keep on trying
for I know it's 'Gospel true'
there never was a cloud so dark
the sun could not shine through!

On the Bright Side Newsletter

I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal.

The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life.

You'll find quotes, poems and stories and even a few recipes included in this newsletter. I try to find something new each day to share.

In a world that very often publishes only the dark side of things I felt that others would be encouraged to hear about

It's WEDNESDAY!

TODAY IS NATIONAL DOG DAY

National Dog Day has two goals: to hon

or dogs, and to rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse. It's an opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in our lives.

This day is intended to honor dogs for all that they do for us. In addition to giving love and companionship, dogs help us out in countless ways. They are watchdogs for our safety. They lead the blind. Dogs aid in search and rescue, and they seek out bombs and drugs.

The second goal of National Dog Day is to rescue dogs in need. On occasion, dogs need us to save them from homelesness and abuse. The goal of the National Dog Day foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs a year. Lend a hand to help a dog in need today, or any day.

One thing that I really love but haven't had in ages is

German Potato Salad

German potato salad with a bacon and vinegar dressing. This no-mayonnaise recipe is easy to make and good for picnics. Allow the salad to sit for a bit to soak up the sauce

2 1/2 lb. waxy potatoes, about 6 medium

6 slices of bacon, chopped small

3/4 c. chopped onion, chopped

2 T. flour

1 T. sugar

1/2 tsp. salt, adjust according to how salty the bacon is.

1 tsp. celery seed

1/8 tsp ground black pepper

1 c. water

1/3 c. white vinegar

2 T. chives, chopped

Cook potatoes in their jackets 20 minutes or until barely done, drain, peel and cube. Set aside.

Cook bacon until crisp, remove from pan and set aside. Add onions to bacon drippings and cook until soft and beginning to brown.

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to form a roux (flour/fat paste for thickening sauces). Let it cook for 1 minute, then add the sweetener, salt and celery seed. Add water gradually, stirring constantly so that no lumps form.

Add vinegar, and bring sauce to a boil for 1-2 minutes. Add pepper. Taste and adjust

seasonings.

Add potatoes and crumbled bacon to pan. Stir and heat until potatoes are heated through. Put potato salad in a bowl and let it marinate until lukewarm.

Sprinkle chives on top to serve

I am visiting these two dogs today. They are DS#6's. I'll be in good company for sure. Soon as I hear how the surgery goes I'll be letting everyone know. Of course I'll be praying and trusting that all goes well.

I did get some back to school pictures yesterday from DDIL#4 of my Sunshine Boy going back to school. I'll be sharing them soon. I imagine that most are going back this week too. It's sad to say good by to summer vacation but exciting for them all to get back to school.

I'm sure there are some dogs out there that will be missing their playmates too.
