General Douglas A. MacArthur
Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goals will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men;
one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.
And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously.
Give him humility, so that he may always remember
the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength. Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, I have not lived in vain.
Never seem wiser, nor more learned, than the people you are with. Wear your learning, like your watch, in a private pocket, and do not pull it out and strike it merely to show you have one. If you are asked what o'clock it is, tell it, but do not proclaim it hourly and unasked, like the watchman
Lord Chesterfield to his son
I've learned . . .
that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
45 DAYS UNTIL FALL
A bit of love from someone near…

Love the poem by Douglas MacArthur. I didn't know he wrote poetry! What a surprise! Sorry to hear that that heat wave is continuing on!! I tasted 3 weeks of it when I was home in July and that was enough for me! xxoo
As the mother of two sons, I find the "Build Me a Son" prayer very meaningful. I've never read it before!
