ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
APRIL 18TH, 2010
It's SUNDAY!
This will be my first Sunday going to the church here in the little town near the camper. It is a small place compared to where I go at home, yet it is still very nice and I need my weekly R and R no matter where I am, so off I will go. It continues to be cold at night but I am keeping warm. It's a good thing I have plenty of layers of clothing to wear.
By Saturday evening the winds that we had been experiencing finally died down and we had a great campfire. DD fixed her famous popcorn too and we all enjoyed that very much. It is now official, camping season has begun.
THINKING
A little story……
A young man approached the foreman of a tree logging crew and asked for a job. “That depends” replied the foreman, “Let’s see you fell this tree.” The young man stepped forward and skilfully felled a great tree. Impressed, the foreman exclaimed, “You can start Monday.” So Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday rolled by and Thursday afternoon the foreman approached the young man and said, “You can pick up your paycheck on the way out today.” Startled the young man replied, “I thought you paid on Friday.” “Normally we do” said the foreman. “But we’re letting you go today because you’ve fallen behind. Our daily felling charts show that you’ve dropped from first place on Monday to last place today.” “But I’m a hard worker” the young man objected. “I arrive first, leave last and even worked through my coffee breaks.”
The foreman, sensing the young man’s integrity, thought for a minute and then asked, “Have you been sharpening your axe?” The young man replied, “No sir, I’ve been working too hard to take time for that.
We all live busy lives and sometimes forget to sharpen our own axe. We need time to relax, to unwind, to pray, to think, to learn, to socialise. Like a sharp axe these are essential, if we don’t make time for them we loose our effectiveness as time goes on.
Play comes easily to children. They spend entire days engaged in joyful activity. As an adults we too need to in tune with the lighter side of life. Life is not meant to be focused on stress and worry, but on freedom and joy.
And all the people went up following him, playing on pipes and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth quaked at their noise

NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Dutch ovens are great to use in the summer for camping and outdoor cooking generally
Here are basic rules or guidelines to use in choosing your cast iron dutch oven
Always buy a Dutch oven with legs (some come with flat bottoms). Ensure that the legs are thick and sturdy, and long enough to allow the air below to flow around the coals.
Ensure the oven lid fits tightly to the base. The tight fit ensures that the steam generated inside the oven does not escape, and prevents ash from the coals placed on top from spoiling the food.
The lid handle should have a hollow center which allows it to be lifted by the lid lifter.
Start off with the very versatile 12" cast-iron oven. It has a 6 quart capacity and weighs in at about 20 lb.
PRAYERS
Lord, give me patience and tolerance with everyone.
Lord, show me how to be kind and generous to everyone.
Lord, help me to live positively and cheerfully for everyone.
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU !
AROUND HOME
Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer. Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen

It is so strange but nice that everyone else is returning home so they can go to work and school on Monday. I'm enjoying the fact that I really don't have to be anywhere this morning or any morning ever again.
FAMILY
Families are like fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts.

Today my children that camp near me and their families will return to their homes. I'll stay on through Monday then I'll be home for the rest of the week till I leave for DS#6's house. It was so great sitting around the campfire and laughing. It was cold with frost overnight but today hopefully it'll warm up some.
The dogwood trees are starting to bloom here and there are wildflowers all over. Just beautiful.

Oh how wonderful your weekend sounds. I know it is such a wonderful feeling to know you don't have to go to work anymore. Hopefully one day I will be able to enjoy that same feeling. Talking about my chairs I have on my porch....I do love them as they swivel & rock. Rocking chairs are my fav. Have a wonderful Sunday!
I hope that you enjoyed your visit to the new church Ma! I loved the story of the woodsmen and the axe. What a wonderful metaphor for life! Sounds like you are really enjoying your weekend and retirement! xxoo
I am glad you are enjoying your family and have a nice little church to attend. Stay warm...
Love the story of the woodsman and his axe! Your words about relaxation and rest are so true; I needed to be reminded of that after a few stressful days!! Glad you enjoyed your weekend!
