JUST FOR TODAY

We all need to look for the silver linings in our day-to-day lives

Just for today: I will take a break from the activities of the day and focus on and discern what is best for me. Such times for regeneration support the health of every cell and function of my body. In a quiet, reflective time, I am stress-free and prepared for God's healing power within. As I spend time in meditative prayer, concerns dissipate, answers come, and healing flows

IT’S THURSDAY !!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DD AND DS#3!!!
May the dear Lord bless you both today and always!

There are only these 2 birthdays in June for my immediate family but I do have a niece who’s birthday is coming soon too ! Next month we don’t have any birthdays but we do have 2 wedding anniversaries in the family.

It seems there is always something to celebrate. I did get to see DS#3 and DD last weekend to wish them a happy birthday, but far too often I don’t get to see a lot of my family. It’s been an adjustment for me to have them spread out all around. I just try to make the most of when I do see them.

Yesterday we had a little rain and it turned a little steamy for part of the day. That’s something we’re not used to. It’s been cool here for this time of year. Today it’s supposed to be in the low 70’s again and then it will warm up for the weekend in the 80’s with more rain coming our way Friday and Saturday. It looks like I’d better make sure I have a good book to read for the weekend.

THE DIFFICULT MOM

Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them, as my Difficult Mom told me:

I loved you enough . . . to ask you where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home. I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep. I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room. . . a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect. I loved you enough to let you assume responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart. But most of all,

I loved you enough . .. . to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it. Those were the most difficult battles of all, but I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too! And someday when your children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, you will tell them.

Was your Mom difficult? I know mine was. We had the most difficult mother in the whole world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too. Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison. She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less.

We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, empty the trash and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do. She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

By the time we were teenagers, I think she could read our minds and I swear she had eyes in the back of her head. Then, life was really tough! Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them. While everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13, we had to wait until we were 16. Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault.

Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be difficult parents just like Mom was. I think that is what's wrong with the world today.

Father's Day was nearing when I brought my three-year-old son, Tyler, to the card store. Inside, I showed him all the cards to choose for Dad and asked him to pick one.

When I looked back, I saw Tyler picking up card after card, opening it up and immediately putting it back in the rack.

Tyler, what are you doing? I asked. Can't you find a card for Daddy?

No, he replied, I'm looking for one with money in it.
