ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th, 2013
7 DAYS UNTIL FALL
Sunset: 7:39 pm
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
Canton, Ohio native, Ida McKinley, was widowed on this day in 1901. President William McKinley died of wounds inflicted by anassisin. It was said that after McKinley was elected President, he defied protocol and insisted his wife be seated next to him at state dinners rather than across the table. He was a devoted husband. Ida was an invalid yet she never failed to be present to greet visitors to the White House.
The happiest people I know… are devoted to something bigger than themselves.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The old-fashioned home with its fireside companionship, its religious devotion and its closely-knit family ties is my idea of what a home should be.
Fr. Edward Flanagan, founder of Boys Town
Being devoted to something means being focused on that particular thing almost exclusively. When you are devoted to a cause, you work to achieve its goals. When you are devoted to a person, you place their needs above your own.
Family makes such a difference in our lives for our good or ill. Because there are no perfect people, there are no perfect families. Nevertheless, families can be very, very good.
I've noticed that within a family it’s okay to have some fighting within the family, or some complaining about family, or teasing about family, but it’s not okay for someone outside the family to do any of that. We are devoted to one another. Families add a dimension of warmth, tenderness, concern and loyalty to our lives.
Today's pictures are of some of my family as we celebrated Mr. Wonderful's birthday last Saturday. We were at one of our county metro parks for the day and the wild flowers were just beautiful!
I hope you all have a super Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them.
I am trying to count at least 3 things I'm thankful for each day and then in 1 year's time I'll have counted 1000 gifts. I’ll be sharing them and giving thanks to God for these gifts each day.
947. for devoted families
948. for time, the best gift you can give your family
949. for the sweet and wonderful times spent with family
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

Having a place to go - is a home. Having someone to love - is a family. Having both - is a blessing.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
