ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th, 2013
2 DAYS UNTIL FALL
96 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
Sunset: 7:29 pm
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
On this day in 1951, Cuyahoga County native Marine Corps Gunny Lou Diamond died. He was a veteran of both World Wars and was one of the most colorful of the old time Marines. After he retired from the military he returned to his home in Toledo, Ohio, and he was buried with military honors at Sylvania Cemetery in Lucas County.
It is not titles that honor men, but men that honor titles.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
From our ancestors come our names, but from our virtues our honors.
Honor: That which rightfully attracts esteem, respect, or consideration; self-respect; dignity; courage; fidelity; especially, excellence of character; high moral worth; virtue.
Virtues are the essence of our character. Honor is living by the virtues, showing great respect for yourself, other people, and the rules you live by. Honor is the goodness inside of you. Keeping it bright means your goodness is pure and radiates strength from within. Having honor means you are honest with yourself and others.
There is a saying that says: I have no money - but I have honor. During hard times especially, it's good to remember that values are a potent defense against adversity
Respect is earned, but honor is given. Respect takes time to build and grow as a recipient earns it by the way he or she interacts with others. Honor is fully dependent on the giver through no action of the recipient. One can give honor by valuing, respecting, holding another in high esteem, or treating another as precious and valuable.
Who sows virtue reaps honor.
Leonardo Da Vinci.
I'm honoring all my friends and family today. I hold you all in high esteem. You are all precious and valuable to me.
I hope you all have a fantastic Friday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
True honor is priceless!
I am trying to count at least 3 things I'm thankful for each day and then in 1 year's time I'll have counted 1000 gifts. I’ll be sharing them and giving thanks to God for these gifts each day.

No person has ever been honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
You're blessed when you're content with just who you are—no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought
