As you all know by now I truly do have a room of my own.  Matter of fact I have a whole house of my own with many rooms to do with as I choose.  Very soon now I’m starting the much needed Spring Clean here at my house and hopefully these rooms will become a little bit more pleasurable.  Deep cleaning for me is also a chance to change things around a bit. I used to move furniture often but not so much anymore.   There are a few small changes I’d like to make and when I do the cleaning will be the time to do them. 

 I think I’ll start in the kitchen.  It’s the place I spend most of my time.  I’ll work my way to the front room which is what most see when they enter my house and then on to the upstairs. I get tired just thinking about it all.  Little steps will be taken though and I have nothing but plenty of time to do it.

This morning is warmer, 20 degrees,  but we’ll be back in the deep freeze next week.  More snow coming down today too.  I think I need to stop talking about the weather. It’s winter and so it will be for quite awhile.  Our weather man said that winter is half way over so there is a good thought for you.

I remember a while back when there was a video going around of a laughing baby.  No one could watch it with out laughing themselves.  I know I couldn’t help but laugh.  They say that kids do laugh a lot more than adults.  We don’t laugh half as much as we should.  One thing about life is that we were made to enjoy it.  Sometimes we forget that.  God made every thing and every thing was good.  We were given the gift of laughter and to choose not to enjoy it is denying the gift.  

I’ve found that that laughter is truly good medicine.  I always feel better after a good laugh.  If you haven’t anything to laugh about, I’ll give you permission to laugh at me.  I do it often myself.

Laughter always reminds me of sunshine, it warms up a cold day like nothing else.

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday!  Remember to laugh!

A friend has written asking for prayers saying: a close friend is in need of prayers for her grandson who is 6 months old and has a blood clot in his brain.  Please join me in praying for this dear little one. May the dear Lord bless him with healing and a speedy recovery.

January 23rd is Pie Day! Everybody loves pie, probably one of the greatest and most versatile foods known to mankind. Sweet, savoury, filled with gravy or sauce, pies come in all shapes, sizes and flavours. Why not celebrate this Pie Day by making a pie from scratch, using your favorite fillings

Impossible Coconut Pie

2 cups milk
4 large eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cups baking mix/ flour
1 cup flaked or shredded coconut
1/4 cup margarine or butter, softened 

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly butter a 9 or 10 inch pie plate. Whiz everything in the blender about 15 seconds. 

Bake in a 350 degree oven until golden brown and knife inserted in center comes out clean, 50-55 minutes. 

Refrigerate any leftover pie.

I do love pie and have a good pie crust recipe but for just me it seems a waste to go to all the trouble so I often make Impossible Pies using bisquick baking mix.  And turning the oven on these cold days is a good thing too.

Even though its been terribly cold out, we have had some days of sunlight shining too.  They say we won’t be much warmer at all next week either.  I don’t know if we’ll see much sunshine or not but I’m determined to make my own.  The other day I visited one of our local goodwill stores.  Looking around there always makes me smile.  I also stopped at a few antique stores on down the road…that made me smile too as most antiques look like things I grew up with.  I found this colorful tablecloth and placemats and even a new pin up lamp for by my kitchen sink…brightening up my space helps when you have cabin fever for sure. Oh and I found two adorable little crocheted doilies too that I thought would make good mug rugs.

 Today we take a step back and truly appreciate our children and grandchildren. It’s Celebration of Life Day!  Each child and each life is to be held as a precious gift and should be treated with the highest respect and dignity.

I’ve lived such a wonderful life and my children and grandchildren certainly do help to make that way. Holding a tiny baby and seeing them smile for the first time does take my breath away.  Not only have I held my own but I’ve held my grandchildren in my arms too.   The oldest is going to be 21 this year and the youngest is now 3 months old.  And there will be one more coming our way this summer!  I’ve been blessed with a large family and I do love each and every one of them.    I celebrate life every day and my life wouldn’t be complete with out my family.  

We are down in the single digits here again this week.  Very cold nights and not much warmer during the day.  Highs of 11 or 12 degrees have been the norm and  strange as it seems, I’m looking forward to temps in the 20’s this coming weekend.  When we got the subzero weather before it was only for 2 days.  This week we are having a good 5 days worth. Not the -minus 12 degrees we had, but still close to zero.   The only good thing is we haven’t seen any significant accumulations of snow, only light dustings that are slowly adding up.  I’m trying to see the bright side!   Hope you all are keeping warm.

Even though we may not often think about it, some of the best things that we can do for our health are also the simplest. Hugs are loving. Hugs are therapeutic. Hugs are caring. Hugs are celebratory.  Hugs make you feel good inside.

It has been said we need four hugs a day for survival. We need eight hugs a day for maintenance. We need twelve hugs a day for growth.  There are days I feel like I’m barely surviving, but other days I get more than 12 so in the long run I’m sure it all balances out.

A double birthday happens just 2 times a year in my family.  This is the first and is the celebration of my youngest son and one of my granddaughter’s birthdays.    This year we won’t be together but none the less my birthday wishes are just as heartfelt.  The other double birthday will come in June when we celebrate DD’s and DS#3’s birthdays.

It’s also Martin Luther King day today and we celebrate the birth of a very great man.  This date has been notorious for bad weather here.  Many years I had to take some of my boys back to school on this weekend and many the times we drove on snowy and icy roads too.  This weekend has been cold and snowy but for the most part the roads are clear so that is worth celebrating too.
