Today is Coast Guard Day  which honors the branch of the military that protects our waters and shorelines. This year is their 236th birthday!

The term Coast Guard wasn’t used until 1915.  This military branch originated on August 4th, 1790, it was referred to as the Revenue Cutter Service.  More than two hundred years later we celebrate what the Coast Guard has done to protect our country.

Grand Haven Michigan is known as Coast Guard City U.S.A.  Historically this town’s annual celebration is famous for its large commemoration of the Coast Guard.

Celebrate today and share your appreciation for the men and women of the Coast Guard!

The Coast Guard has long been known as an armed service that get more done for less.

When I lived in Ohio we lived close to Lake Erie and visited the Coast Guard Station there.  That is what the pictures are of today.

The coast of Texas is also protected by them, but we live about 3 hours away from the coast so I haven’t seen their rescue stations.  We do have a beautiful coastline that is on the Gulf of Mexico and have visited their beaches several times.

Not only do they protect our shorelines they also help any boater that may be having trouble.  Boating is a popular sport in the waters of the Gulf. 

Yesterday, I attended the funeral services of my dear old friend and was able to say a last but not final goodbye.  It was well attended by their family and friends,  of which they had many.

Today, I’m going to visit DS#6 who lives about 2 hours away.  I’ll be spending time with them until the 7th and then I’ll return to DS#5’s house.  I’ll return home to Texas on the 9th!  Time is flying by here !

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
