Today is also Free Comic Book Day which was established by Joe Field of Flying Colors Comics in Concord, California.  He brainstormed the idea in his Big Picture column in the 2001 Comics and Games magazine.  It is a promotional effort by the North America Comic industry to help bring new readers into comic book stores,

It has often been tied to the release of a major theatrical film adaptation of a well known super hero to introduce the film’s heavy  promotion and related press about the comic book medium.

The first event took place in 2002 just after the opening of the first Spider Man movie.  A comic book is a publication  of comic art form of justaposed panels that represent each scene.  Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative using dialog contained in word balloons. The first comic book appeared in the U.S. in 1933 and was a reprinting of earlier of earlier newspaper comic strips. 

Celebrate today by reading a comic book.  Enjoy!

 My boys used to collect come  books, but when I moved from a large house to a small one, they took them home with them.  They are collector items and old ones could be worth a lot of money. Local comic books stores always offers a free comic book to people today, but  I usually only read the comics that are found in the newspaper.

This granddaughter’s birthday, as are so many, is a long distance holiday for me. As usual a card will be sent in the mail with lots of love and birth day wishes. I nicknamed her Angel because of  a picture I saw one Christmas.  She was an angel and her brother is our star.

Today is will be a partly cloudy day with temps in the low 80’s, which makes for a gorgeous day! We had heavy rain yesterday evening and it was very windy, but my grandson was able to enjoy his trip to Six Flags.  They only had to cancel the last 2 hours.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
