The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades.  May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks,  and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Count Your Buttons Day which are a necessary item on coats, trousers, jackets, or shirts.  Buttons come in a variety of sizes, colors and materials.

The creators of this holiday are unknown, but buttons are very important to us, especially when it gets colder and we need them to close us the coats we wear. 

Celebrate today and start saving the buttons you have in a jar. They make a pretty decoration. 

If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side

I used so save my unused buttons in a jar and I also had a box of buttons. When I discarded worn out clothing, I would always cut the buttons off and save them in case I ever needed one like that again.  Buttons are not cheap to buy and it saved me some money over the years.  The box I had was full of buttons in little plastic bags that some times come with the clothes you buy. I think it’s nice that they give them to us just incase we loose a button.  

Back in my younger days I did a lot of sewing and buttons were a necessity for the clothing I made. I had to count the buttons I needed and then see if I had enough of the same kind in my button jar, so I didn’t need to buy any more.  Buttons can also be decorative.  I have several different items of clothing I wear, that have buttons around the neckline to decorate.

Yesterday was a busy one for me.  My daughter and I went to one of our favorite boutiques that was having a sale.  I needed to get a few more items of fall clothing.  Then later on in the afternoon we went to my grandson’s basketball game, and then out for dinner. 

So I appreciate a lazy Sunday with nothing much to do. We all need a day just to relax now and then. Especially when we get older. Thankfully, I have more restful easy days than not.

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
