THE BRIGHT SIDE

Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.

Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.

Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.

THE BRIGHT SIDE

I'm looking out the window
and the day is drab and dreary,
And I'm trying to console myself
by thinking something cheery
I know it's simply horrible
to get in such a slump
And I also know it's up to me
to get across the hump
And I realize I'm selfish
to mention this to you
For, gee, you might be feeling
a little 'low-down' too
but often when I feel like this
I tell myself it's true
That I am not the only one
who feels 'low-down and blue'
And just knowing there are others
who feel the way I do
Renews my sinking spirit
and keeps me smiling through
and know that it's natural
to take a 'spirit-dive'
Provides the spunk and courage
to hang on and survive
And while there are a lot of moods
that we can drive away
by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE
in all we do and say,
There also is a loneliness
that God meant us to feel
But, gee, it sure is mighty hard
to know which one is real
And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack'
who never saw the sun
And just complained that every day
was such a dreary one.
But I know that all the dark days
are just part of God's plan
We should accept them graciously
and do the best we can...
So I'll just keep on trying
for I know it's 'Gospel true'
there never was a cloud so dark
the sun could not shine through!

I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal.

The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life.

You'll find quotes, poems and stories and even a few recipes included in this newsletter. I try to find something new each day to share.

The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is a Happy Birthday to my daughter and DS#3 who were born on the same day but one year apart !

It is also Father’s Day which is an opportunity to tell all the dad’s in your life how much they mean to you today!

In 1910 the state of Washington declared the first Father’s Day Celebration. The idea of honor men for their domestic role was considered quite controversial for many years. It wasn’t until the Great Depression that the holiday became universally accepted. Struggling businesses began marketing the occasion as a second Christmas for dads, and families all over the country adopted the tradition. In 1972 it became an official national holiday.

To celebrate today, take a moment to connect with all the wonderful dads in your life; fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and sons! Express your love and appreciation!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad.

It is a triple celebration for me today, my DD’s birthday, DS#3’s birthday and Father’s Day. I no longer have my own dad to celebrate with, but I do have friends and relatives that are dads. I didn’t get any cards sent out, so I’d like to wish all the dad’s a Happy Father’s Day!

My sons are all fathers and I like to think they are good dads just like their father. He was a good role model for them to follow.

I won’t be seeing my daughter today, so I’m sending a card in the mail. She decided she wanted to spend some time on the beach for her birthday. She’ll be sharing the day with her own family and two of her brothers who flew in to join her. They don’t live close by and she needed to connect with them.

I won’t see DS#3 either, but will send him a card as usual. He doesn’t live close by and I usually only see him on major holidays

They are making plans for my birthday next year when I turn 80. I’ll get to see everyone then.

Hopefully I’ll be talking to them today, they usually call me. They know I’m always available to talk to, but I don’t know what they are doing.

It’s my day to rest and relax as usual. I won’t be partying except for lighting my birthday candle. The pictures today are from their birthday in 2015. We were having our family reunion and everyone was there to help celebrate!

I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

ADVICE FOR TODAY

The greatest thing a father can do for his children is to respect the woman that gave birth to his children. It is because of her you have the greatest treasures in your life. You may have moved on, but your children have not. If you can’t be her soulmate, then at least be thoughtful. Whom your children love you should aways be someone you acknowledge with with kindness Your children notice everything and will follow your example.
