Hallmark!
Today is Ash Wednesday which is a Christian holiday that marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. This period of fasting can start anytime between February 4th and March 10th, and is traditional a time of religious reflection and atonement. It prepares Christians for Easter Sunday, which celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
One tradition of Ash Wednesday is to receive ashes. They are made from blessed palms that used on Palm Sunday of the previous year. The ashes are placed on the foreheads of the faithful as a reminder of humility and sacrifice. Beyond being a symbol of penance, the ashes serve as a reminder that God is merciful to those who wish to repent.
Celebrate today by going o church and receiving ashes. It’s the perfect day to learn about this tradition of the Christian faith.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
It is not just about giving up our favorite food, but it’s about going further and giving up things like hatred and unforgiveness. You need to clean you heart and prepare yourself for purity.

Whether or not I am able to get to church today, this is a tradition for our family. For many years we’ve had ashes placed on our foreheads. We remember that we we were made of dust and to dust we will return. We are like the dust flying in the wind. What matters is that we believe in God and He will give us eternal life if we but believe in Him.
Today is a day of fast and absence. No eating between meals and no meat on the menu. Every Friday during Lent is also a day of abstinence.
I’m proud to say I’m of the Christian faith and would never deny my beliefs. Many people have been and still are persecuted for being Christains and we should pray for them. Thankfully as Americans we have the right to worship as we choose.
It’s my day to make up a new menu so that I can make up a grocery list for next week. I usually go to the store today, but the weather is looking to be rainy and cold so I may put it off until tomorrow. We’ll see what the day brings.
My menu for next week is:
Monday - Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup
Wednesday - Mexican Inspired Beef and Corn Skillet Peppers
Friday - Crispy Tuna Cakes
Weekend - Slow Cooked Swiss Steak
On the menu for today is:
Salisbury Steak Supreme
Makes 4 servings
2 medium red onions, divided
1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
1 tsp salt free seasoning blend
1/2 tsp pepper
dash ground nutmeg
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 tsp cornstarch
1 tsp low sodium been bullion granules
1/2 cup cold water
2 tsp butter
1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
Thinly slice 1/2 onions, finely chop remaining onion half, in a large bowl toss bread crumbs with chopped onion and seasonings. Add beef, mix together lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four 1/2 inch thick oval patties.
Place a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat. Add patties, cook 5 to 6 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from pan and discard dripping.
In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. I same skillet heat butter over medium high heat. Add mushrooms and sliced onions, cook and stir 5 to 7 minus or until onions are tender.
Stir in cornstarch mixture. Bring to a boil, cook and stir until thickened. Return steaks to pan, turning to coat with sauce, heat through.
I prefer to leave the drippings in the pan from browning the patties and not using the butter. I think the drippings add to the flavor. I’ll be having these with a side of vegetables, not potatoes but many like mashed potatoes with theirs.
Since we aren’t supposed to be eating meat today, I won’t be fixing this, but saving the recipe for later on. I think I’ll be having some fish sticks and sweet potato fries done in the air fryer. Simple and easy.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!

On the Bright side when Lent is over, it will be Spring !
Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season were a big part of my growing up, but I don't know if Tom and I will be attending services this evening or giving up any particular food stuffs. Like your quote, I want to give up unnecessary negative feelings. Maybe I should start by turning off the news? (lol)
For sure Easter is a WONDERFUL time of the year. A time to think back and appreciate all we have because of HIM.

40 sad days lead to the best day ever. I use to give up things for lent - I didn't this year. It is a wonderful time of year to think about things though.
