Today is also the Daytona 500 which is a 500 mile long NASCAR race held every year at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach Florida.  The first race was in 1959, the same year the speedway first opened.  Since 1962, it’s been the season opening race of the Cup series.

The Daytona 500 is the biggest race of the NASCAR schedule with the largest prize.  This popular race is sometimes referred to as the Great American Race or the Super Bowl of Stock Car racing.  The date changes from year to year but it’s always held in February.

Each winner of the Daytona 500 is award the Harley J. Earl Trophy in Victory Lane.  The winning race car is displayed, as if in a museum, at the Daytona 500 Experience for one whole year.

To celebrate today, simply watch the race. Enjoy !

This grandson’s birthday is another long distance one for me.  He lives in Ohio but not close by.  As usual a card was sent out in the mail with lots of love and birthday wishes.

 I’ll be watching the race and will celebrate today. I don’t have any race car pictures except for the little toy race track I keep here for the grandchildren to play with. 

It will be a lazy Sunday for me.  Although it’s to be warmer today, I’m staying in and relaxing.  

I really have no reason to go out but to take my car for a ride and I think I’ll wait until tomorrow for that. I try to start it up and go for a short ride every other day so that my battery doesn’t die out on me again.

as they discharge their duties

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them
