Hallmark!
Today is Grammy Awards which is the biggest night of the year for the music industry. At the first awards ceremony in 1959, the Recording Academy presented 22 awards. Tonight, there will be over 80 awards honoring the best music of the year.
The music industry originally created the Gramophone Awards to ward off the so called threat of rock ’n’ roll. Within three years the had given in. In 1962 Chubby Checker won the first award for Best Rock and Roll Recording. In 1983, Michael Jackson became the first artist to win 8 Grammys in one year. Carlos Santana tied the record in 1999.
To celebrate today, tune in tonight to see if your favorite songs and artists win that sparkling gilded statue.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I don’t deserve this award, but I have arthritis and I don’t deserve that either.
Jack Benny
I will celebrate and watch the awards tonight as I love music. My favorite is country music, although I did like rock and roll when it was popular. I’ll be tapping my foot and singing along with them.
This is the day I cook for the weekend and on the menu is:
Slow Cooker Chuck Roast with Potatoes and Carrots
Makes 12 servings
2 1/4 lbs boneless chuck roast, trimmed
3 Tbsp olive oil
1 lb carrots, peeled and cut into 3 inch pieces.
4 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, quartered
1 small head of cabbage, cored and quartered
1 1/4 cups unsalted beef stock
3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
3 Tbsp light brown sugar
2 Tbsp stone ground mustard
2 garlic cloves , minced
3/4 tsp black pepper
3 Tbsp. roughly chopped fresh parsley
Heat the oil in a skillet over medium high heat, add roast and cook until browned on each side. Transfer roast to slow cooker. Place carrots, potatoes and cabbage around the roast.
Stir the beef stock, vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, garlic, and pepper in a bowl. Pour the mixture over vegetables and roast. Cover and cook on LOW until the roast and vegetables are tender, about 9 hours. Turn off slow cooker and remove the roast, reserving liquid and vegetables in the slow cooker. Cover the slow cooker to keep the liquid and vegetables warm. Let roast rest 20 minutes; slice the roast across the grain, Remove cabbage from the cooker and cut into slices. Place cabbage, potatoes and carrots on a serving platter; top with sliced meat. Sprinkle the parsley and serve with reserved liquid.
I cut this recipe in half and will still have plenty left over to eat here as it is just me. I also omitted the sugar. 1 1/2 cup of beef and vegetables counts as 1 serving. I found it’s ok for me to have potatoes as long as it’s in moderation. They are not something I’ll have every day but once in awhile won’t hurt.
I’ve done so well on my diet, I have even allowed myself an award of 1/4 slice of pie for dessert.
The pictures today are not of grammys but of the Pinewood Derby awards given at a derby contest one of my grandsons participated in when he was in Cub Scouts.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!

It's not about winning or losing, its how you played the game.
That roast sounds good. Keep warm, MA.
No matter the weather, we never get tired of a good pot roast and veggies. In fact, Tom mentioned getting another chuck roast last night -- that, or a pork loin. Unlike chicken broth, the no-sodium beef is sometimes hard to find on our shelves, but I always look and stock up on it when it's there. That, or the vegetable.
I'll probably be watching and singing along tonight, too!
Dog-gone-it I forgot they were on. That was a tradition my mom and I had for years. We loved the pre-show with Joan Rivers and looked at all the fashions.
Gotta try the pot Roast sounds great. Awards are special. Love the picture of y'alls Boy Scout.
I am the proud winner of two awards, one as a teen for High diving and one in the USN for Hill Billy of the month. ;-)
I remember verywell the social fight against Rock 'n Roll and how all the teens were headed for Hell! LOL There was some truth in all the drama. ;-(
Anyway as always, good entry and history lesson only this case WE remember the history. OUCH!
