Hallmark!
Today is National Wear Red Day which is celebrated the first Friday in February. On this day everyone across the country dons the color red in order to raise and spread awareness in hopes to help eradicate heart disease and stroke in millions of women over the nation.
Women have been the heartbeats of the home since the beginning, playing multiple roles as mothers, daughters, sisters, counselors, providers, and protectors. They shoulder more responsibility now in and outside the the home than ever before. They need more support in nurturing themselves as deeply as they nature their families and communities.
This day is supported by the American Heart Association and celebrated in connection with National Heart Month, and focuses on women’s heart disease and stroke risks. The good news is 87 percent of all heart issues are believed to be preventable making awareness, education, research and resources vital to the the cause.
To celebrate today, wear red, whether it be a lipstick, a pair of pants, or favorite hat, paint the city red.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Home is where the heart is.
Pliny the Elder
Like many others I suffer from high blood pressure and that is why I watch my diet in order to prevent a stroke. I am also on medication and my doctor keeps a good check on me to make sure all is well.
DDH died of a sudden Heart attack and so wearing Red has a significant meaning to me. It’s not only women, but men too that should be aware of Heart Health.
My youngest sister also had a heart attack a few years ago but she is a survivor after having open heart surgery. She is doing well and is constantly monitored by her doctor.
It’s important we know how to keep our hearts healthy, we only get one of them. Keeping ourselves stress free is also important as stress increases blood pressure.
I try to get outside to see the beauty of nature as often as I can. A long walk can do a lot to relieve stress. Sadly our weather isn’t cooperating so today, I’ll be staying in and keeping warm.
On the menu for today is:
Spinach and Artichoke Dip Grilled Cheese
Serves 4
4 oz chopped spinach
1 cup chopped canned artichoke hearts, patted dry
3 oz cream cheese, room temperature
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground pepper
8 slices bread of your choice
3 Tbsp. olive oil, divided
Place spinach artichokes, cream cheese, mozerella, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and pepper in a bowl. Stir to combine well.
Divide spinach mixture among 4 bread slices, Top each with another slice of bread.
Heat 1 1/2 Tbsp oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add 2 sandwiches and cook til crispy and browned. Flip and continue cooking until the cheese has melted and the filling is hot. Repeat with remaining 1 1/2 Tbsp oil and 2 sandwiches. Serve immediately .
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
A grateful heart is a beginning of greatness. It is an expression of humility. It is a foundation to the development of such virtues as prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love and well being.
James E. Faust
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

I wear red for my dad. He died of heart disease.
I love this initiative! Red's my favorite color to wear.
My own father died suddenly from a heart attack; no warning. I'm so glad your sister got the help she needed, and you're practicing great self-care.
