Happy Birthday to you♥
Today is also National Hot Toddy Day which celebrates a delicious drink made with honey, lemon, hot water and the spirit of your choice, usually whiskey, brandy, or rum. It is the perfect way to warm up on a cold winter day, and a few sips can also relieve cold or flu symptoms.
Hot toddies originated in Scotland sometime in the 18th century. While the exact details are unknown, historians believe the the recipe wad developed to make the taste of Scotch whisky more palatable. One theory suggests that the word toddy evolved from Tod’s well, also known as the Today Spring, the water supply for Edinburgh.
Today there are many variations on the original hot toddy recipe. Some versions call for tea, coffee, cocoa, apple cider, spices or even butter.
To celebrate today, brew up your own type of hot toddy and enjoy!
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side

This granddaughter’s birthday is another one of my long distance celebrations. She and her brother live further away from me than any of the others. I’m not sure I can even send her a birthday card as I’m not sure I have a correct address for her anymore. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard from her. But I haven’t forgotten this granddaughter of mine and will be celebrating her birthday today.
There is a hot toddy recipe that was passed on to me by one of my husbands aunts and uncles. They would always have us over for an evening during the holidays and give us a Tom and Jerry. The story goes that my husbands great grandfather, the father of his grandmother, had a bar and served this drink every Christmas Eve to his customers. The aunt gave me the recipe and I’ve made it a few times for my family. Years ago I found a bowl and cups marked with the name Tom and Jerry at an antique store and I got it to use, then gave it away to my oldest son along with the recipe. The only thing I remember is that you had to make a batter that you stored in the fridge and then when you wanted to serve it, you’d add hot boiling water to that mixture.
It must have been a popular drink at that time. My husbands Uncle said he went to visit the town in Germany that the maternal side of the family had come from and they had a pub there they he got to visit. Sadly I don’t have any part of my husband’s family tree ancestry to pass on to my children. That is all I know.
I think it’s important to pass on what we know of our family history to our children so they will know where they come from.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!

I celebrate all the family birthdays no matter how far away they might be.!
Happy birthday to your beautiful granddaughter - try to send a card anyway.
You know I have never had a hot toddy!
Happy Birthday!!
Happ0y Birthday blessings to your pretty grandgirl!
My mother used to make a batch of 'toddy' makings and freeze to use throughout the season. Not sure, but I think she used vanilla ice cream. You finding that punch bowl and cups -- and passing it down to DS #1 with the recipe is a wonderful tradition!
