Today we celebrate Rubber Duckies birthday, so around the country it’s National Rubber Ducky Day.  He is a friend of Ernie and Big Bird on Sesame Street and made his debut in a February 1970 episode.

The rubber ducky has come along way from his first concept as a chew toy for children.  Rubber manufacturing developed in the late 1800’s and they produced a variety of toys from dolls and various animal shapes, including the rubber duck.

In 1928 Landon Smart Lawrence received the earliest patent for a rubber duck toy.  His clever design weighted the toy so that when it tipped, it returned to an upright position.  

During World Wars I and II, rubber was a valuable commodity.  Rationing became mandatory and by the 1940’s with the advent of plastic, the rubber ducky began being produced in vinyl and plastic.

The rubber ducky became a Toy Hall of Fame inductee in 2013.  Founded in 1998, the Hall of Fame has only inducted 52 other toys.

To celebrate today, spend some time with your favorite rubber ducky. There are many varieties to choose from.

Here at my house, the rubber ducky was a favorite bath tub toy for the kids.  I have also seen them in some peoples pools. Some are even big enough to float around on.  Any way you look at them, they are a lot of fun. 

I couldn't find my rubber ducky pictures to show you so I went with pictures of ducks for today. Actually some of them are Canadian Geese.

Yesterday it was so cool, I actually saw steam rising from my son’s heated pool.  I haven’t been in yet, I’ve spent most of my time lying in the sunshine soaking up some sun.  It’s been in the upper 70’s or low 80’s so it’s really not too hot out.  I’ve been very comfortable in the sun.  I guess we’ve had low humidity and my son says that makes a big difference.

Everyone here is back to school and work, so I’ve been alone here, holding down the fort with their dog.  He likes to spend time with me out on the patio.  They call it a lani as it is all screened in so that the bugs and critters cannot get in.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for.  There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

 

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
