Happy Birthday to you♥
Today is also Freethinkers Day, also known as Thomas Paine Day, which celebrates the life and work of Thomas Paine who was born on this day in 1737. Paine came to America in 1774 at the request of Benjamin Franklin. Throughout his life he wrote many influential books and pamphlets including the Age of Reason, The Rights of Man, and Common Sense. Each of these works brought public attention to key issues and helped establish the philosophical foundation for the American Revolution.
Paines’s writing inspired many people to strive for politcal, economic, and social advancement. He was also one of the first people to call for universal human rights and an end to slavery.
Freethinkers Day has been celebrated since the 1990’s . It’s purpose is to educated people about Paine’s work and the importance of freethinking and freedom.
To celebrate the day, pick up a copy of Common Sense and take a moment to appreciate your civil liberties.
If you cannot see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their own customs, privileges or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking.
Leo Tolstoy
This grandson is another one of my long distance birthdays. He does live in Ohio, but not close enough for me to visit today. A card will be going out in the mail soon wishing him love and lots of birthday wishes. He is now a graduate student in college and is another one of my grandchildren born in the year 2000. He is the oldest of five children and is a good big brother and son.
I consider myself a free thinker, I’m not prejudiced in any way or form, I am open to change and believe that we all have a duty to right our thinking.
It’s another cold day and they say we’ll have some rain which will turn over to snow before tomorrow morning.
As usual I’ll be staying in and keeping warm. I like to start the day slow and easy. The church services will once again be done online. I’ll be enjoying a long afternoon nap here in my rocking chair with my cozy throw.
I’ve been reading lots and that’s nothing new. While I was in Florida, my Kindle quit working and DS#4 and family got me a new one to enjoy. When I got home, I had to go to the library to have them set up the Libby App for me so I can enjoy reading free books from the library. So now I’m back to normal here for sure.
All my favorite authors and books are once again available for me to read for free. January is almost over and I’m glad it’s just about gone. I’ve had a lot trying days and will looking forward to the new month ahead. Hopefully it will be a better one!
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!

I won't be eating any birthday cake today, but will light my birthday candle.
Freethinker day - well I will have to think about that.
Is it your birthday - STAR? Happy birthday!
What a cute photo! Some cute smiles from them all.
As I have learned more and been less trusting, I have become a free thinker. I say what I believe, without caring who might be offended. Free thinking is great.
Happy Birthday to your Star!
What a nice gesture from DS #4 - gifting you a new Kindle. The Libby app is great!
