Today is also Eat Outside Day which is the perfect opportunity to take your breakfast, lunch or dinner into the great outdoors and enjoy the last few days of warm summer weather. The last day of August is here and summer is almost over.

Eating outdoors has become more of special event, rather than a regular occurrence.  Today is a day to change that.  Celebrating today is easy.  Find a picnic table, a park bench or and outdoor restaurant.   You can also spread a blanket out on the lawn.  Eat out side in the sunshine and fresh air.  You’ll be glad that you did!

Todays pictures are of this grandson’s birthday party last year and we did happen to eat outside at his house when we celebrated his birthday.  His party this year won’t be until September 8th and I hope to have new pictures to share with you then.  This is one party I get to attend ! Yay!

I think we used to do more outdoor eating in the summer before air conditioning became popular.  But not everyone has air conditioning and I’ve seen many farm houses with a picnic table outside the door and under a shade tree.  It is usually much cooler there than indoors for some.  

It’s the end of another week and we have a long 3 day weekend ahead.  Maybe there will be a picnic or two in your future.  If not, take some time to spend outdoors. I  know will for sure.

Today is National Toasted Marshmallow Day which is an opportunity to celebrate a bit S’mare Summer.  With summer coming to a close, today is the perfect day to gather around a camp fire and toast up some marshmallows

Summer would not be the same with out a campfire and this great campfire treat.  

Summer is short and summer is good so let’s enjoy it while it is still here.  Toast a marshmallow and forget about every thing else.

I do love sitting around a campfire and enjoy toasting marshmallows with others. And usually when we have marshmallows, the graham crackers and chocolate bars are included to make S’mores.  

 It’s hard to believe that Labor Day weekend will soon be here.  Just a couple of days now and we’ll have a long weekend to celebrate the end of summer.  Thankfully, I got to do everything on my summer bucket list and will soon be making one for fall.  

The rain yesterday cooled things off for us and we’ll be in the 70’s today, but by the weekend we will see temps in the mid 80’s.  Hopefully this the end of the 90 degree days for this year anyway. Todays pictures are of more of the grandchildren on their first day of school this week.

Today is According to Hoyle Day which celebrates the life and times of Englishman Edmond Hoyle who died on this day in 1769. 

 A lawyer by trade, Edmond Hoyle is best know for publishing books detailing the rules and regulations of many popular card and board games of his time including chess and backgammon.  He is also known for writing a pamphlet on the card game of Whist.

The phrase according to Hoyle came from the authoritative books Hoyle wrote on the rules and regulations of games.

I’ve kept the Book of Hoyle here on the bookshelf for many years and it’s been used over and over when someone wanted to know the exact rule of playing certain games.   Now a days I don’t play many card games at all but have enjoyed many a game over the years.  

The pictures today are from one of the many games played at family gatherings over the years.  Lots of fun and laughter have been shared when we get together. 

Today also celebrates the birthday of my first son.  He was the oldest of my 7 children and is certainly missed by all.  He was a great son, a wonderful husband and dad and a good friend to all.   The day he was born is a day I’ll never forget and he is son worth remembering too, so today I’m celebrating his life and remembering…

We should see some cooling off as far as temps go today.  Rain is moving in and we’ll probably have some thunderstorms, then it will be cooler. Not to worry though there will still be several more warmer days ahead.  The long range forecast says we’ll still be in the 80’s until week after next when we’re to be in the 70’s.
