Bake Cookies Day comes at an opportune time. It right amidst the major December holidays. It serves as a reminder to bake holiday cookies, if you haven't done so already.
Young and old celebrate this day by baking their favorite cookies. Make a party of it, and bake cookies in groups with family, friends, kids and grandkids. Don't stop at baking just one kind of cookies. Plan to bake a number of cookies. Try a new recipe, or two, or three, or....
If you bake more than you can eat, good for you! Wrap up gift trays filled with cookies for friends and neighbors. Many cookies freeze well, too.
Cookies are made of butter and love.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Grandmas never run out of hugs or cookies.

I usually don't bake many cookies here at my house, but this year I have tried to get a few batches done as I'll be having my family home for Christmas this year and want to be able to have some special treats for them. I think that cut out cookies with frosting and sprinkles is one of everyone's favorite cookies. I remember one time when some of my boys decided they were going to frost the cookies for me while I was at work. I had baked the cookies ahead of time. When I got home I found they had loaded those cookies with so much frosting it was hard to tell that there was actually a cookie underneath. They loved them, but this mom had a very hard time eating just one.
Time spent in the kitchen produces much more than cookies for me. It brings many happy warm thoughts of Christmas past and hopes for the present and future ones too.
Cinnamon Star Cookie Recipe
¾ cup granulated sugar
1½ cups margarine
¾ tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
Vanilla, maple flavoring to taste
2 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1½ cups walnuts, chopped
Cinnamon sugar
Cream together the sugar, margarine, salt and cinnamon. Add vanilla and maple flavoring to taste (about ¼ teaspoon each). Add eggs and mix until smooth. Stir in flour and walnuts and mix until smooth.
Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut with a miniature star cookie cutter. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes.
Makes 3 to 4 dozen cookies, depending on size of cookie cutter.
Holiday Tips Carrot sticks-avoid them. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.
Drink as much eggnog as you can. Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an egg-nogaholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have two. It's Christmas!
If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy.
Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people's food for free.
Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food.
If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention.
Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?
Fruitcake? Avoid it at all cost!
If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention. Reread tips. But hurry! Cookieless January is just around the corner.

COUNTING MY GIFTS
As Long as There's Christmas,
I truly believe
That hope is the greatest
of the gifts we'll receive.
Don Black
I am trying to count at least 3 things I'm thankful for each day and then in 1 year's time I'll have counted 1000 gifts.
83. For my stove that is really old and still works
84. For a warm kitchen on a cold day
85. for the heavenly smells of cookies baking
Three gifts starry
86. The sky on a clear night filled with stars
87. A Christmas ornament
88. for star shaped Christmas cookies
Christmas is a celebration of the ultimate gift, but family, finances, or just plain ole stress can cause this special day to dim. Offering up a gift of thankfulness has the power to give those things their rightful place as gratitude rises to the top.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL !

Hi Pam,
Cookie making sounds good to me. I love making sugar cookies and my hubby likes to make chocolate chip cookies. Yummy!
Have a wonderful day.

Sweet, sweet post Pam. I was going to bake some cookies today. Love all your quotes and thoughts. They always make me smile. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family. xxoo
I think rolled, decorated sugar cookies are the best too. I use my grandmother's recipe, which we've made for years. In fact, I'm working on a post now, highlighting my holiday baking. I love looking at pictures of cookies!
