HOT MULLED CIDER DAY

Hot Mulled Cider Day, celebrated annually on September 30th, gives holiday entertainers an advance opportunity to try out seasonal hot cider recipes well before company arrives for Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas.

As autumn progresses and temperatures tend to drop, many folks reach for steaming mugs of fragrant and delicious hot mulled cider.  This eternally popular drink dates back beyond 55 B.C., when the Romans arrived in England to find villagers drinking an apple based beverage. But stateside, cider was somewhat of an accidental success: English settlers of colonial times had trouble growing expensive grains necessary for traditional brews, so instead relied upon the abundance of apple trees to create cider, which soon became one of America's most popular drinks.

For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together.  For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.

After some relaxing moments with my coffee this morning, I'll be off to church and then on to our little X-factors special celebration today.  Some of my family and some of DSIL's family will be there, so it should be a day of fun for sure!

It seems there is a slight chance of rain, but we're  hoping the weather will cooperate with a partly sunny day !
