ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
DECEMBER 11th, 2011
It's SUNDAY!
WORLDWIDE CANDLE LIGHTING DAY
The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause. As candles are lit at 7 p.m. local time, creating a virtual wave of light, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor the memory of children in a way that transcends all ethnic, cultural, religious, and political boundaries.
A CANDLE LIT HEART
Somewhere across the winter world tonight
You will be hearing chimes that fill the air;
Christmas extends its all-enfolding light
Across the distance...something we can share. You will be singing, just the same as I,
These familiar songs we know so well,
And you will see these same stars in your sky
And wish upon that brightest one that fell.
I shall remember you and trim my tree,
One shining star upon the topmost bough;
I will hang wreaths of faith that all may see --
Tonight I glimpse beyond the hear and now.
And all the time that we must be apart
I keep a candle in my heart. Mary E. Linton
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
NATIONAL NOODLE RING DAY
Baked in a ring mold, this recipe requires flat noodles bound together with a little flour, some eggs, and maybe breadcrumbs. Inverted onto a serving plate, this noodle dish is a festive way to slice and serve pasta.
BAKED NOODLE RING
1/4 pound large flat noodles
safflower oil for coating pan
2 teaspoons butter
1/4 cup minced green onion
1/4 cup minced red bell pepper
1/2 cup thinly sliced mushrooms
2 teaspoons flour
1/2 teaspoon herbal salt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup yogurt
1 dash freshly ground black pepper
2 egg whites
2 whole eggs
1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
In a large pot over high heat, bring to a boil 2 quarts of water. Cook noodles until barely tender (about 5 minutes). Drain and refresh under cold water, then set aside.
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly oil an 8-inch ring mold or an 8-inch square baking pan. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat butter and sauté green onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms for 5 minutes. Add flour and salt and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Pour in milk and cook, stirring frequently, until thick, about 8 minutes. Stir in yogurt and pepper and remove from heat. Separate eggs. In a small bowl combine all egg whites and beat until stiff. In a separate bowl beat egg yolks until foamy, then add to sauteed vegetables. Add drained noodles and fold in egg whites, then parsley. Pour mixture into prepared pan. Bake until set, about 30 minutes. Remove from mold and serve hot.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
A Christmas candle is a lovely thing;
It makes no noise at all,
But softly gives itself away.
Eva Logue
Christmas comes at the end of the year and it is a good time to let go of the things which trouble us and to begin anew: Christmas is a good time to strive to be a better person. It is a good time to remember, reflect upon, and practice the lessons that the Man whose Birthday we celebrate on Christmas Day taught us: Forgiveness, Charity, Forbearance, Kindness, Generosity - and most of all Love.
The Seven Candles of Christmas
This Christmas let us light seven candles in remembrance of the true meaning of Christmas:
Light the first candle for the Man whose birth we celebrate on Christmas Day. May that the fire from that candle light the world.
Light the second in honor of the gift of His love. May the light from this candle touch every heart - those who believe and those who do not.
Light the third candle in honor of your children and your family; for they are among your greatest gifts.
Light the fourth for the young men and women in the armed forces who sacrifice so much so that we may have the right to celebrate Christmas - or not - in accordance with our own beliefs.
Light the fifth candle for your friends. For they, indeed, are among your greatest treasures.
Light the sixth for the less fortunate ones: For the mother who has no food to give her child; for the father who has no job; for the children who go hungry. May the glow from this candle guide our conscience.
Light the seventh candle for those who are suffer. For those who are ill, forgotten, lonely; for those who are homeless and are huddled on dark winter nights in the unseen corners of cities all over the world. In remembrance of them, let us light this candle. And, may the light from this candle burn always lest we forget them when Christmas has passed.
Celebrate Christmas with love and joy and share it with all of those you love. May your family find peace and happiness and love in the glow of the Seven Candles Of Christmas. And pray for Peace On Earth.
May the Spirit Of Christmas live within your heart at Christmastime and always
COUNTING THE DAYS
Holly and mistletoe
Candles and bells,
I know the message
That each of you tells.
