ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
JULY 19th, 2011
If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side
It's TUESDAY!
NATIONAL FLITCH DAY
On Flitch Day we recognize the custom of awarding a flitch of bacon, the side cut of the pig, to married couples who make it through their first year and a day with no regrets. This tradition started in 15th century England and is still carried on in some towns today. So to all of you newlyweds out there, may your only regret be that you didn't get more free bacon throughout the year.
In the United States: A side of unsliced bacon was once known as a flitch- it is now known as a slab. An individual slice of bacon is a slice or strip
If it can’t be fried in bacon grease, it ain’t worth cooking, let alone eating.
Southern proverb
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
A thought to start the day...
God's presence is throughout all creation. When the sun rises in the morning, its rays touch everything in creation at the exact same instant. If God's mind is like the sun's rays, then God knows all the intimate details of all our lives in a single instant.
Joseph Girzone
Without the sun there would be no life on this earth. We take its presence very much for granted but the light it produces generates life all around us. The image of God as light of the world and our lives is comforting. God never abandons any of us even in the midst of our deepest darkness.
Every bit of light needs to be harnessed. We do so with a kind word of support, a word of encouragement, a smile, gentle reassurance, a word of thanks, a word of appreciation, a prayer or a smile. All of these and much more remind us of God's gentle presence among us. As we journey through this week we too can bring light and hope where ever we go.
I'd like to give a big THANK YOU to DS#2 and his wife for such a nice visit and to DS#5 for all the driving he did. There were times when the rain poured down that I wasn't quite sure where the road was, but he managed to get us there and home again safely.
The vacation was wonderful but it is very good to be back home again too!
COUNTING THE DAYS
Trips do not end when you return home--usually this is the time when in a sense they really begin.

66 DAYS UNTIL FALL
Keep looking ON THE BRIGHT SIDE of things.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near…
Love,
