THE BRIGHT SIDE

Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.

Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.

Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.

THE BRIGHT SIDE

I'm looking out the window
and the day is drab and dreary,
And I'm trying to console myself
by thinking something cheery
I know it's simply horrible
to get in such a slump
And I also know it's up to me
to get across the hump
And I realize I'm selfish
to mention this to you
For, gee, you might be feeling
a little 'low-down' too
but often when I feel like this
I tell myself it's true
That I am not the only one
who feels 'low-down and blue'
And just knowing there are others
who feel the way I do
Renews my sinking spirit
and keeps me smiling through
and know that it's natural
to take a 'spirit-dive'
Provides the spunk and courage
to hang on and survive
And while there are a lot of moods
that we can drive away
by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE
in all we do and say,
There also is a loneliness
that God meant us to feel
But, gee, it sure is mighty hard
to know which one is real
And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack'
who never saw the sun
And just complained that every day
was such a dreary one.
But I know that all the dark days
are just part of God's plan
We should accept them graciously
and do the best we can...
So I'll just keep on trying
for I know it's 'Gospel true'
there never was a cloud so dark
the sun could not shine through!

On the Bright Side Newsletter

I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal.

The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life.

You'll find quotes, poems and stories and even a few recipes included in this newsletter. I try to find something new each day to share.

In a world that very often publishes only the dark side of things I felt that others would be encouraged to hear about

If you can't see the bright side of life, polish the dull side

It's THURSDAY!

AND it's World SMILE Day!

World Smile Day celebrates the ever popular yellow smiley. It also offers us an opportunity to do an act of kindness. According to the World Smile Day website, a proclamation of this day was made by the U.S. Congress. Now that should put a smiley on your face. The smiley face became so popular, that the U.S. Post Office issued a stamp with the smiley face.

The intent of World Smile Day is to do an act of kindness, or help one person to smile. Why not do both!? The yellow smiley stands brightly smiling upon this day, offering it's stamp of approval.

THINKING

Welcome every morning with a SMILE. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a self-starter. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.

NEW IN THE KITCHEN

One of the special Octobers Days to celebrate also National Frappe Day

Whether you pronounce this 'frap' (hello New England!) or 'fra-pay' (hello rest of the USA!), there is no denying how fantastically tasty a chilled milk shake made with ice cream is. Just add a blender, some whipped cream and flavorful imagination!

The dictionary definition of Frappes is that it is an ice cream beverage drink. Also, many frappe recipes do not call for ice cream at all. Some use whipped cream. Other recipes use yogurt in place of ice cream. Perhaps the most popular today are the coffee and mocha frappes, served by coffee shops and cafes.

Pumpkin Frappe

1/2 cup Pumpkin Puree

1/2 cup Vanilla Ice Cream

1/2 cup Milk

Pinch Cinnamon

Pinch Nutmeg

Put pumpkin puree, ice cream, milk and cinnamon into a blender.

Blend ingredients together

Pour contents into glasses. Add a touch of nutmeg on top.

Serve immediately.

As you can see, I had by arms full yesterday evening. My favorite rocking chair and a babe to rock, makes me very contented indeed.

FAMILY

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a SMILE, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

DS#5 and family came for dinner yesterday evening. They brought our dinner with them so there was no cooking for me to do. We had a delicious Campbell Soup dish with Stove Top Stuffing and chicken breasts. Mmmmm good ! Next time I'll have to cook for them.

After camping season ends I'll be resuming my 3rd Sunday dinners. My family is so wide spread that usually it's DS#5 and family and DD and her hubby that come, but it's nice to have how ever many can come.

DS#5 also got my printer cord unplugged that was behind the entertainment center so finally I can use my printer again.

COUNTING THE DAYS

Count your blessings.
