ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
APRIL 1ST, 2009
TODAY'S THOUGHT
It's better to be thought of as a fool and to surprise people once in a while than to be thought of as a brain and to let people down when they need you the most
Julie Melanson
TODAY’S ACTION
It is the ability to take a joke, not make one, that proves you have a sense of humor
Max Eastman
TODAY’S QUOTE
The first of April, some do say,
IT’S WEDNESDAY !!
We are supposed to get some showers today. April isn’t fooling around; she’s going to start full strength. So far they are saying that Saturday when we have the family gathering will be 55 and partly Sunny – I’m praying for nice weather.
Yesterday after work I went to the cemetery and put some Easter flowers on my parents’ gravesites. I still have to visit my husbands so maybe Sunday after church I can do his. Easter will soon be here. And so will all the April Birthday’s. There are 5 of them for my family in April. The first is DS#2’s son and I’ll mail his card out today so it gets there on time.
Come the actual weekend of Easter, I hope to be at the campground. I’m getting excited about it all. I really want to know if those mice were visiting there this winter…
On my calendar for today it says…
Plant marshmallow tree seedlings today for a good crop by late summer!
April Fools!
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !
TODAY’S PRAYERS
Jesus, please help us to deepen and strengthen our sense of gratitude for all that you are in our lives
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU!
TODAY’S TRIVIA
April Fool’s Day is probably the most enigmatic holiday still celebrated today. No one really knows it’s origins, or the where, when or why the celebration began. The first references to “All Fool’s Day” appeared during the late Middle ages in Europe. What we do know is that this day is devoted to the fine art of foolery
The most popular and widespread theory about the origins of April Fool’s Day involve calendar changes in the late sixteenth century. During 1582, France was the first country to switch from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar established by the Council of Trent during 1563. Consequently, the beginning of the year was moved from the end of March to the first of January.
Some people did not wish to give up the old calendar and continued to celebrate the New Year between March 25th, which was known as Lady Day, and April 1st. In retaliation, those who had adopted the new calendar played jokes on the supporters of the old calendar. Paper fish called April Fish were stuck to their backs. This may have well been the beginnings of April Fool’s Day
Today is National Fun Day, a day to play a clever, fun prank on friends, family, and co-workers. It's clever and fun only if they laugh
Today is National Day of Hope, a time to pray for victims of child abuse and neglect
National Sourdough Bread Day
The name April may have been derived from Aphrodite, the ancient goddess of love. Or it may have come from the Latin verb asperire, meaning "to open," which could refer to spring blossoms
April birthstone: diamond; April flower: sweet pea or daisy
