ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S BIRTHDAY

Abraham Lincoln became president in 1861. Although he hated war, he was drawn into it as he believed it was the only way to save the nation after the southern states declared their secession to the Union.

In addition to serving as president during the civil war and saving the Union,  Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation that ended slavery in the U.S. forever. He also wrote and gave The Gettysburg Address, memorializing the most important battle of the Civil War. 

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, is one of the best loved Presidents this country has ever seen. 

I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

 No man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar.

It is said that people called former president Abraham Lincoln honest Abe because he was said to never have told a lie. This may or may not have been true but the nickname is still known today.  

 I love forthright and honest people who tell it like it is.  I don’t want to have to wonder tomorrow if you meant what you said today.  When we are honest, people trust us more and are more willing to connect with one another.

When I know someone else is honest I respect them and value their opinions, but when someone is dishonest I tend to distrust them and try to stay away from them.

Maybe we could all try to be Honest Abe today and be truthful in what we say and what we do.  

The pictures today are of flowers blooming here last spring.  After all the snow and cold weather it's nice to think that very soon now they'll be back.

COUNTING MY GIFTS

I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.

I am trying to count at least 3 things I'm thankful for each day and then in 1 year's time I'll have counted 1000 gifts.

I’ll be sharing them and giving thanks to God for these gifts each day,

267. for our great Presidents 

268. for freedom from slavery

269. for honest and truthful people everywhere

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Please pray for God's protection of

our troops and HIS wisdom for their

commanders.

Lord, hold our troops in

your loving hands.

Protect them as they protect us.

Bless them and their families for the

selfless acts they perform for us

in our time of need. I ask this in the

name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters

and Paramedics and EMT's
